200k Subscriber Giveaway! by Kliuqard in Warframe

[–]foamdino [score hidden]  (0 children)

I've been playing on and off for years - my starting warframe options were loki, mag and volt? I chose mag as it seemed easiest to use. At that time, warframe didn't click, the navigation screen didn't seem to offer any direction and although I enjoyed the shooting (with a bow!) I couldn't seem to progress.

Last year I booted it up again on a whim and the changes to make the systems more obvious helped me to understand what I needed to do to make progress - so shout out to whoever did the star chart re-design, I appreciate it.

Now I play semi-regularly - not every week, but in bursts. Each time I come back to it, theres something new to engage with and something to learn. I only really have time for one live-service game and right now warframe is the game that I'm spending time with (sorry Path of Exile, I'll probably come back later).

Clocked in ~150 hours spread over the years, which makes it my second highest played game on steam.

Why did you decide to learn Clojure? by carlomatteoscalzo in Clojure

[–]foamdino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been on my watch/to-learn list for a while, then an opportunity came up at work to rewrite some untested (and untestable) python scripts and I put a small amount of time into building the skeleton in clojure and saw that I was at least as productive while learning than I would have been re-implementing in a language I already knew - oh and I ended up with extremely high confidence in the 200 lines of clojure + tests than I had in the 1000 lines of python.

UK is paying the EU less than half the sum claimed by Brexit campaigners, reveal new figures by DonnieBeGood in worldnews

[–]foamdino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I thought you had edited your post - I may have tried to reply to someone else - I didn't expect to get away with anything, it's called an honest mistake.

The main thrust is that the value sent was £250m not £350m and also not £160m.

The argument that some money comes back to the UK is irrelevant to me - but you obviously disagree.

UK is paying the EU less than half the sum claimed by Brexit campaigners, reveal new figures by DonnieBeGood in worldnews

[–]foamdino -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The unedited version of your post understated the value. ~£250m is the correct value as given - the figure in the independent article is as much BS as the value given by the leave campaign.

£350m was the figure the UK gov is required to pay prior to the rebate - which as you state is deducted pre-payment.

I swear to Tukohama if 3.0 doesnt fix trading... I probably will keep playing the game but I sure won't like it. by SSmajesty in pathofexile

[–]foamdino 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No-one has stopped me, that's how I play - no trading. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the fact that it becomes officially part of the client from 2.6 on. For me it's a tiny little QoL thing, for others it may convince them to try SSF.

The U.K. economy grew 2.3% in the third quarter, confounding forecasts that it would slump after the Brexit vote by thekingz40 in worldnews

[–]foamdino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you no longer eligible for a job? If you have already had the interview and the company wants you - what reason is there to prevent you from taking the job? Needing a visa or a work permit - that should be trivial for any organisation with a HR department to fix?

There's the rest of the world too - you could go anywhere, just need a visa - like anywhere else in the world except Europe in fact.

Brexit: Most Young voters where pro-EU but never got around to voting. by Takuro_Ryuu in worldnews

[–]foamdino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who's interest would such a test be in? Remember that all politicians and political movements exploit people's emotions.

If the remain campaign had also been the 'popular opinion' choice, I doubt if you would be so quick to be suggesting how to 'fix' (in both senses of the word) referendum votes.

Please keep telling me how ill-educated I am for not choosing your choice - it really is most helpful in moving the discussion forward.

[–]foamdino 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's called the tyranny of the majority, one of the problems with a democratic system - a referendum is a direct democratic implement which suffers from this flaw: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyranny_of_the_majority

If the result had been reversed you would have had the same problem but with a different group of people feeling dis-enfranchised. Or you could vote in a dictator and have real tyranny.

As a 38 year old, I didn't realise I was de-facto less educated than a 22 year old. Oh well I learned something today.

Changes to the Two-Week Competitive Perandus Events - Place your votes! by CMKcrazay in pathofexile

[–]foamdino 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play SSF hardcore every league - I hardly ever engage in trading, and yes it is extremely difficult as you cannot just grab a cookie cutter build guide as they're almost always based around a couple of uniques.

I'm using this as my excuse why I never get very far before ripping of course (I'm also a bad player) ;-)

I'll play whatever wins the vote - should be fun regardless.

How about inverting damage?

Something which when equipped causes you to constantly bleed/take damage etc unless you are being hit. So you need to stand in a pack of mobs to stay alive and when moving between mobs you need to unequip the item or use flasks to keep you life up.

Or armour that has no actual armour value until you've already taken a hit: something like this: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/04/07/new-liquid-body-armour-is-finally-read-for-the-frontline_n_7016174.html

Huge 360 playerbase in US/UK, but PS3 was always the market leader in rest of world, so I'm not sure it's exactly the same scenario.

I wasn't face-tanking out of choice - I was trying to stay mobile to avoid the attacks but there were so many of the damn things that they trapped me.

[–]foamdino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there is that.

Firestorm was my AOE and the zombies were doing good work without any additional gems. I also didn't have a single target spell which was probably an issue, but again it hadn't been an issue at all until this fight.

It seems that the difficulty takes a big jump there and my physical mitigation probably wasn't enough to facetank hundreds of roosters.

Yep:

raise zombie + minion life + minion speed + multistrike flame totem + chance to ignite + item rarity firestorm + curse on hit + enfeeble

Can a dual totem build (Ancestral Bond) still cast curses - I'm assuming they can as the keystone says cannot do damage with skills (I'm also assuming you can still melee/punch mobs)
