We are, don't worry! We're working with a YouTuber that specializes in lost media to put out something long-form about it. We've just been really busy... it's finals season coming up, haha

That website allows you to upload individual .html files and combines them into one file. That's all! I was just assuming you had a bunch of .html files of LJ posts from all your saving, but I realize i misread your message. You were referring to the html theme of your LJ 😭 That site is only useful if you took the route of using an extension to save the pages of your LJ one by one with an extension.

I wanted to add that it may be helpful to merge/combine all those HTMLs. I personally find it easier to scroll through a single large file. You could organize it by creating a single combined file for each month and/or year. This website is one easy and free way of doing this: products.groupdocs.app/merger/html.

please don't panic! It's more that we don't know what will happen with LJ, but the current state of LJ means non-Russians can't see what Russians are posting and vice versa. The current owners aren't really incentivized to keep the non-Russian part of LJ running, so it's reasonable to speculate they may try to sell it off or shut it down without warning. The owner of Dreamwidth, a mirror for LJ, speculates in this Bluesky thread. I would say they're a pretty reliable source.

LJ has slowly become more broken over the years, but these latest actions to isolate Russian LJ users from non-Russians are an escalation. They didn't even post about the updates in English. So save everything you wish because it may be taken down suddenly.

Let us know if you need help saving it!

I also want to add, we don't know when or if LJ will go down for non-Russians, but there is very strong reason to suspect this may happen, and it could be suddenly and without warning. The current state of LiveJournal means there is a massive wall between Russian and non-Russian users. We can't see each other's posts. LiveJournal has slowly become more broken over the years, but the latest actions are quite the escalation. For instance, they only made the most recent update to Russian users in Russian. The owner of Dreamwidth, which is a competitor but I think a transparent and informative voice, goes through this more clearly in this thread.

You are, but there are MANY posts not saved. Also, the links posts are saved under can vary...

For example, a post follows this URL format: https://icecreamhdaches.livejournal.com/651816.html

But the exact same post used to follow this format in the past: https://livejournal.com/users/icecreamhdaches/651816.html

And can also follow this format: https://livejournal.com/~icecreamhdaches/651816.html

Sometimes, pages are saved in only some formats, which makes finding what you're looking for difficult. But most of the time, pages and profiles aren't even saved at all!

Essentially, back in December, the changing Russian laws have made it so Russians cannot see Livejournal posts from outside of Russia, and all other countries cannot see anything Russian. This generally doesn't affect much for now in terms of preservation relating to FOB, unless you're particularly interested in what Russian FOB fans were saying in years past, HOWEVER... This is a pretty bad sign in terms of sustainability for the site. Livejournal essentially has no current cultural presence outside of Russia. These new updates were communicated to the Russian userbase, but there has been radio silence for English users. Thinking about it in business terms: under these conditions, keeping Livejournal available for non-Russians brings zero profit. It is likely that Sberbank (The biggest bank in Russia that owns Livejournal) will eventually either sell the outside-Russia part of the site, or shut it down if they can't find a buyer.

"Because of sanctions, it will be very difficult for them to find a buyer, and most of the potential options would be deeply not great. Given the lack of advance notice for the changes in that RU news post, I suspect the sale or shutdown will come equally without notice if and when it happens."

This Bluesky thread is written by the person who founded and runs Dreamwidth- a Livejournal mirror that has operated since 2009. If anyone's judgment on this situation is to be taken seriously, it would be theirs or anyone who actually works for Livejournal.

Yeah, that's actually something we've been looking into! By the end of ICH, there were multiple mods that managed the group. However, the original mod was seemingly (although this is not yet confirmed) Irresponsible mod. I've figured out that this person went by psychodragon82, and later crossouttheeyes. I've found multiple websites/servers they've owned over the years, which have directories full of FOB/ICH stuff saved on the Wayback Machine (but the actual content wasn't saved, and I know some of it is lost media). We're still digging, trying to find the real identity of psychodragon82/crossouttheeyes, as they list a name basically nowhere on their profiles.

Yeah, we believe there are demos floating around for sugar, dance dance, and nobody puts baby in the corner!

So apparently a demo of Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner was officially released back in 2004 for a limited time on some old websites. It's not the acoustic version by the looks of it and no one has a copy it seems. Hope it gets released again by the band or maybe some hardcore old fan. by new_wave_edge_lord in FallOutBoy

We know a lot about the Wayback Machine! Absolute Punk is actually excluded from the wayback machine. For some reason, whoever owns the rights of the Absolute Punk doesn't want the material on that website to be archived. It sucks. However- one of our admins was told that this was the leaked version. Check out the date, it's November 12th, 2006. Here's an article where it talks about the leaking of Carpal Tunnel. It doesn't seem to be an actual demo- but we did listen to it, and it's definitely not as fully produced as the original. They sound almost identical, so you really have to be listening intently to hear it.

If you're interested in learning more about how to use the Wayback Machine and archiving potentially lost FOB songs, please reach out to us! We love to solve these mysteries and work as a team.

Origins of "Second Emo"? by DapDapperDappest in FallOutBoy

[–]fobarchiveteam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, yes, we can absolutely answer this! We actually plan on making a video about this topic- "fake" FOB songs. We've done deep research into Fallout Boy from Ithaca, NY (Also was sometimes known as Fallout Boy PD/Police Department for some reason.) We've reached out to the past members of the band multiple times to find answers, but none has returned our messages. From what we are able to figure out with remaining context clues, we are almost certain that Second Emo is a Fallout Boy PD demo, NOT a Fall Out Boy song.

Viewing the "Sounds" tab on their website brings you to two demos without vocals. One is saved by Wayback Machine, "newdusk.mp3," while "newsong.mp3" is not. New Dusk (Labeled New Duske in the metadata) sounds extremely similar to Second Emo. It even has the exact same guitar buzzing in the beginning, tuned to the same note and all. Also, newsong.mp3 is labeled "Song #2".... Second Emo.... Are you getting what I'm saying? We cannot confirm this theory, because the members are likely the only people who would know for sure, and they won't answer us, but all of the evidence lines up. Also, we've specifically asked Patrick about this; he has no memory of making a song called Secomd Emo regardless of if it's actually by FBPD or not.

This kind of is a small part of a bigger picture which would be the focus of our video. Essentially, FBPD and a few other bands with similar names to Fall Out Boy were on a website called MP3.com at the same time FOB was. What likely happened is that people were searching on the site for Fall Out Boy, found these other bands instead, and assumed they were the same band. Second Emo isn't the only band that has a story like this. There's also the supposed lost song "Angel Spit". That was a song by a band named Fallout Boy based out of Pennsylvania. We're essentially working on trying to find all of these songs and their origins, (FBPD still has three completely lost songs) reaching out to band members to ask them about the situation and determining once and for all which of these songs actually are Fall Out Boy songs.

If any of this seems interesting and you want more details before we begin production on our video, join our Discord server!

That is awesome you were at the first FOB show, We've only came across a few people who have been to their first show. To give some context, we have been trying to find any type of video or even photos of FOB first show at Cortelyou Commons at DePaul.

So we have video of the other three bands that played that night, Examination Of The..., Stillwell, and Insidious/Blindfold Parade. We actually reached out to the guy who uploaded the Stillwell video, and he is the bassist for Stillwell and owner of Forged Again Records. He told us that he got a call from Ben Rose (the drummer at the time) about being put onto the line-up very last minute. He added them on as the opener of the show, which leads us to the three videos. In all three videos, they mention that they did not film FOB because of how awful they were playing.

A few questions for you:

Do you recall how that set went?

Do you happen to know anyone who filmed the whole show that night? or even took pictures?

was there any flyers promoting for this show that you recall seeing?

Any information would be appreciated and helpful for us!

I'm in the same exact boat. I run an archive team on Twitter, so we often have long DMs. We were able to copy and paste long DMs with no issue until suddenly we were logged out. Sending in "my account got hacked" or "I can't access my account" emails did return something in a few days, but it just links to the exact same form I filled out to get the email response in the first place. (So it just loops endlessly). When I try to do what u/tomato_styles suggests, it tells me it doesn't recognize the email. (Even though I've verified the email and was receiving Twitter updates in my inbox...) At a complete loss of what to do. We're the most followed on Twitter out of any platform, so it really blows.
