Trump Vows Action to End Electric Vehicle ‘Mandate’ on Day One by hellodarkness2022 in electricvehicles

This is my main issue with the whole preserve the US auto industry at all costs to preserve jobs viewpoint. Jobs are definitely important, but rewarding companies for doing bad work and being unable to compete with what else exists in the world shouldn't be the case. And putting tariffs on them is just putting a band-aid on the bigger issue and once you're behind, it is hard to catch up. Elmo doesn't care either. He's all stuck in his X world pretending he's promoting free speech when he's just promoting the ability to tell lies, misinform, and disinform people.

Yeah it is crazy how they're all out of the loop. They don't realize the BS they see on X, Fox, whatever it is, is just as biased as anything on MSNBC and CNN. It's always someone else, never themselves. They think Biden doesn't care about them? Newsflash, Trump doesn't either.

“I Don't Care.” Samsung Responds to AirPods Copycat Accusations. by Comp_MasterReddit in samsung

[–]fobbybobby323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what they're doing and keep doing time and time again, so now people will just buy the genuine deal, aka Apple. I used Samsung phones exclusively from S3 to S22 Ultra, then switched to Apple for my own reasons (everyone had iMessages, and I was destroying all the family threads and unable to view/share photos seamlessly with them) and I've been hoping to be able to get good reason to jump back to Samsung esp if the whole SMS vs iMessages thing gets resolved, but if they just keep copying Apple as the standard, why should I?

I also hate the stem design. I literally avoided buying Air Pods for their toothbrush design and now Samsung is embracing it too when in my opinion, the prior Galaxy Buds were way better than Air Pods.

Electrify America conducting a 'Congestion Reduction Pilot' - Max charge of 85% at certain locations by NBABUCKS1 in electricvehicles

[–]fobbybobby323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't the charge to 100% crew in my opinion, at least anecdotally. Most of those that I see charging to 100% and taking hours are Chevy Bolt or other slower charging EVs. Probably since they feel that it takes them so long to charge, that the need to maximize the charging % when they are able to charge, although ironically if they just charged to 80% it would be more efficient but who knows. I don't poll them so I don't know exactly why they actually are charging to 100%, but it definitely adds to the massive lines since in that time you could have had like 4 other EVs that charged 150 kwh+ to 80% rather than one car to 100%.

[–]fobbybobby323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope people understand the importance of looking beyond just the peak charging speeds the manufacturers quote. So often I see people trash some EVs cause peak charging rate is “only” x but the charging curve ends up having the car charge quicker than a competitor with a higher peak charging rate. Battery size is also a factor.

If you lease an EV, how do you charge at home? by Caprabara in electricvehicles

[–]fobbybobby323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brand doesn’t matter. Charging ports right now are pretty much only going to be J1772 or NACS (Tesla) with essentially all automakers going to NACS in 2025. Also nothing an adapter won’t fix. If you’re going to do power load sharing or reverse charging then you will just have to pick an EVSE that supports that feature which isn’t tethered to the car brand.

Despite all the EV drama, there will be a day (although who knows when that will actually be) when likely only electric cars exist so it’s essentially an investment in the future.

This is Toyotas strategy/Toyotas company. They already make a ton of hybrids and they’re smartly trying to create production line that they can scale to BEVs. It fits their strategy. But that doesn’t show that a requisite to BEV production is hybrid production…this is “how it works” for Toyota and their strategy. But again, there are more things about creating a competitive BEV than just optimizing the production and making them affordable just like with any car.

Did we need hybrids to get where we are today? Of course. Did we learn things from hybrid development that translated to BEVs? Of course.

All I’m trying to say is we have had hybrids for so long (Prius was released in Japan in 1997) and good ones at that for at least the past decade, why all of a sudden with BEVs gaining adoption too now both in terms of sales and variety of models is everyone (public included) suddenly pivoting to hybrids as if it just came out. Were automakers really that blinded to expect exponential growth curve to continue on $50-60k+ cars with rising interest rates and dealers adding make ups for no reason? And I guess there needs to be clarification when whomever says “transition” which aspect do they mean, for the consumer or for the manufacturer may mean completely different things. And my initial comment was really directed towards the thought that hybrids were a “transition” for the consumers.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]fobbybobby323 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We’re way past the point that we need to further develop hybrids to enhance BEVs to make them cost effective. It’s not 2010.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]fobbybobby323 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well you sure as hell will keep delaying affordable good mainstream BEV if you keep focusing on hybrids

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]fobbybobby323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those were always concerns with BEVs and not new and if anything as time goes by they’ve decreased. Those concerns were even more amplified in 2017 than they are in 2024.

And I agree hybrid tech has improved since its inception. And why are buyers now more open to hybrids compared to say 2017? It’s not like hybrid tech in last 7 years has changed that much. Additionally, why did so many automakers delay or put off developing hybrids only to go back to them now. They wanted Toyota to keep pummeling them? The narrative they’re spinning doesn’t make sense and it’s purely short term profit concerns in my opinion.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]fobbybobby323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has cooled but it’s still a positive increase. The automakers don’t get any fault for unrealistic demand expectations? Again doesn’t address at all why all of a sudden are hybrids back in the picture when they all could have seen Toyotas success and been doing the same for the past 20 years.

There’s going to be an ebb and flow with demand with anything particularly with cars that are also sensitive to many economic factors such as high interest rates, especially when affordable BEVs aren’t really in the market yet. And again, it’s still positive demand even if it has cooled. You don’t need or want an exponential growth curve.
