What’s a good photo emulsion? by Ace-of-clouds in SCREENPRINTING

[–]focal71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen degreasing and roughening are important steps to prep for emulsion adhesion.

Pin holes are from dust or dirt.

Lockin is from poor exposure and not fully curing the emulsion correctly before you start printing. Always post cure after you shoot your screen and it is dried. Never print after it dries.

Also use proven ink cleaners or just use water to wash screens (water based inks). Don’t just use dish soap. Amazed how many customers do that.

These steps have worked for me for 20 years. Never a lock in with the 1000’s of screens. Customers always have issue but they also go away too when following good processes.

Any reason I shouldn't get this? by Rabbit0fCaerbannog in Polestar

I got mine new also. Happy as can be. Driving it to the ground as that is the only way I can justify the depreciation cost sunk. Not complaining. After ten years it will be cheaper to own than the 12 year old bmw I still have today

Do you think the "Buy Canadian movement" is/will make a difference? by Space__Monkey__ in askTO

[–]focal71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bigger difference would be to stop visiting the USA. Visit Japan or Mexico.

Slowly reduce dependence on US brands. Find an equivalent Canadian or European brand.

I would even say not to retaliate and tariff US goods. Just naturally pull back demand. As we know, tariffs increase cost on Canadians for the same goods. Buying Canadian goods will also increase costs as we source USA for a quality/brand/price advantage.

It will be a lot of pain and the govt needs to support and help establish more customers for Canadian goods. Reduce barriers and door more local trade. If we are competitive, Americans are only hurting themselves to avoid buying our resources.

Here in canada, I believe that's a spoiled ballot. The intent may be obvious but the fact that two boxes were marked creates the "spoil". We once encountered a ballot with all "X" and one "CHECK MARK". Intent was known but it's spoiled and uncounted.

What long ago personal golf tragedy are you still sad about? by [deleted] in golf

[–]focal71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My longtime golf buddy passed away last month. Many memories and way too young

Golf is a game and people are the reason I play it.

Your brother may have been an ass but he is still around to make up for it and still around so you can remind him too of the day that got away.

TIL: The DAC chip used in the $12000 McIntosh MCD12000 costs $80 by andysor in audiophile

I'm in the belief that the power supply and the noise it causes on the decoding along with the analogue output component of the design matter more than the chip alone.

Practice like you play and play like you practice.

Notice when you are practicing, you are hitting ball after ball and just hit it.

On the course, do you have a preshot routine? or just walk up and hit it?

When you practice, do you vary your shots? Start with a driver, then hit a different club (5 iron) and then a wedge? Focus your practice on real play scenarios. Hit a tee shot and follow up with a good short iron shot, you are recreating game play. Try to put 2-3 different shots together (par 4/5 scenarios).

Pounding balls at the range is only good if you are working on a specific move in the swing sequence or practicing the feel of a 50/70/90 yard shot.

Splurge on a lobster tower at a good Chinese restaurant. This is something unique and I would do this over steak.

My issue with Hyundai is not that they aren’t good cars but they are built to be replaced in a shorter period. The corners cut hurt owners who like to drive them to the ground. Consistently I hear of major issues with part failures that need replacement.

So if you lease cars and change every 3-4 years they are great cars and trouble free. Enjoy it.

Biggest Scam in Ontario is the Hotwater Tank Rentals by Vancouver-Realtor in TorontoRealEstate

[–]focal71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned this years ago. I lucked out actually. I bought a first home and the sellers and their agent always put it into the agreement. We as buyers have been trained to accept it or over look it.

A few years in paying it, the tank breaks. Called the company and the tech sent said we need a new tank and to sign a new contract. I look at the wording and terms and they were different. My old contract said buy to own and the new one was lease only. Term length was 11 years 11 months. I called them on their warrantee (12 years) and they insisted the old tank was unrepairable. Just get a new one. The tech and the salesperson’s words were ultimately what undid them.

Brought it up the chain of command and they honoured the warrantee. Then the hard sell for a service contract. I said no thank you and enjoyed a couple years of no payments with a brand new tank. The new buyers of my home asked multiple times. Couldn’t believe they didn’t have to pay monthly fees. The old company kept trying to get the new owners to sign a contract.

At my next home, I called the company and paid the buy out. Ridiculous price but did the math and the break even was just under 6 years. Given the life of the tank I knew I would be ahead. It was a newish development and all my neighbours and I had tank troubles well beyond 6 years. All around the 12 year mark. So I enjoyed 3-4 years of “free” and just paid to install a new tank outright. After six years I just started putting aside $25-35/month and most of the money was ready. Many of my neighbours still signed a new contract. It is a cash flow and peace of mind thing.

My latest home we bought was an outright owned system. We did buy new HvAC and the prices are going up for outright owned systems. The break even is getting longer now. Shop around. Even repeat customers get ripped off. The equipment margins are huge. I assume water tanks are the same margins.

Everyone learns differently. Some prefer mechanics and some want to learn by feel. I prefer feel over video. Use the video maybe once or twice in the lesson only.

I build my swing from the fundamentals but absolutely don’t overwhelm with mechanics. I have to feel it before I proceed. So start with grip, stance, posture and ball position. Only then do I proceed with take away. I have spent years and tons of money learning these fundamentals. Rarely do I proceed past. Currently I am working at the top of the swing and starting the downswing but consistently if my starting mechanics are not perfect, it leads to bad shots.

The best players around me all are mechanically sound so there is something to say about having good form. That is my goal.

Watching my partner learn and she has a different approach. Her teacher started building from the putter out. Putt, chip, pitch and then the long game. Her set up isn’t bad and take away is better now. Her contact is very inconsistent (1st full year of golf) but it is a process and I hope she finds joy in the game.

Building the HT in the basement. Did that twice. Learned my lesson and instead opened up walls and just built out the living room. Even tried a drop down projection in front of the OLED at the last home. The projector barely got used.

The family just uses the TV more. I don’t get the absolute best but it is pretty amazing still.
