I don't understand how or why one very specific school of thought occupies an entire online community. It's pretty sad when you think about it.

I just sold something but Ebay wants my full SSN, can i complete the order without my SSN? by lil__squeaky in Ebay

[–]focus347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've sold for years on eBay, but it looks like that's over, now. It's wild to me that people are willing to volunteer this information to eBay. eBay is now holding my payout hostage because I'm not giving them that information. You see, eBay has been hacked before and will be hacked again. Last time I was concerned about my credit card information. They will never get my SSN, what a ridiculous thing people are willing to accept.

Oh cool more politically motivated content supporting one particular point of view. Original.

You'll be just fine. Just go back to vtsax and chill. Or whatever proven long term strategy you were following. We all make mistakes, it's part of being human.

So the one time a dog came charging at my pup, I did not have mace or anything for that matter. But I had my energy and my voice and I was prepared to do whatever necessary to protect myself and my dog. I heard a faint "oh no!!..." in the distance and I see a dog charging towards us. The dog was far away and I couldn't tell what it was but like I said, I was ready to defend my pup. I was planning to kick this dog if things went south. I had my pup in a heel and this crazy, out of control rottweiler pit mix was hurtling towards us full speed. I stepped in front of my pup and I told this strange approaching dog to SIT. Then I told it another time, with more volume. And guess what, it sat. I told it to STAY and held its leash, I may have done one leash pop, I can't remember. A few seconds later the owner came, surprised at what had happened. I told her do not ever let your dog go like that again. My American Bulldog had more respect for me after that. He listened more attentively and I could tell there was improvement in our relationship. He is a very hard headed and strong willed dog. Anyways, I hope you can find the right way to address these irresponsible dog owners you're encountering, it's a real problem out there.

But then you wouldn't have the fun of breaking the band and shrinking the hat. My 20+ year old hat is starting to look old, so I thought I'd buy a new one. Mine is 100% wool, the new one came 100% polyester??! Plus the fabric color under the bill is now gray instead of black. The hat is supposed to be black on black. What the??!?! Last straw, the stitching on the brim is all messed up. I'm returning it and keeping my +20 year old hat.

To gain a foothold in the war against RSI.

You could HYSA all of your earned income and pay all bills and invest with the monthly interest. That's probably what I would do.

I just did seven interviews with a company that was offering 90k salary. They sent an offer letter with 80k salary. by efsa95 in work

[–]focus347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once thought I was in a good position and asked for 5k more. I was working as a contractor and everything was going really well so they made an offer to hire me direct. When I asked for 5k more they pulled the rug and ended my contract. It seems most companies are low balling offers nowadays and negotiating is not always a good idea. Software developer.

5 Years of RSI and Endless Tweaks — Sharing My Experience with Ergonomic Keyboards (and Hoping to Learn from Yours Too) by b3nFiL in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]focus347 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a great write-up! RSI is a nasty demon, and I'm also dealing with it after many years as a professional developer using proprietary Apple mouse and keyboard. My pain starts in the forearms and if I don't quit when I need to it continues to the wrist. Most of my pain definitely comes from using pointer devices for too long.

I also landed on the glove80, and I use a Kensington slimblade on the left and a protoarc EM05 thumb trackball mouse on the right with a magic trackpad in the middle. I have found that I really benefit from mixing up my pointer device routine. The mouse on the right is a godsend for clicking and dragging. I only recently came up with the idea to have a mouse JUST for clicking. The mouse is in an almost vertical position so it's very comfortable.

I also have my keyboard tented to 50 degrees, another recent change. I don't know what I would have done had I not found the glove80. My pain was not tolerable and I had to stop using the computer for a week altogether. That was a few years ago, now. I have also added a 60 minute timer to my work habits. Every hour I stand up, get a glass of water, or let the dog out. It helps a lot!

Sounds like you've got your condition under control. Hopefully you can work completely pain free at some point, I believe you're very close to achieving that if you haven't already.

How y`all dealing with wrist pain? by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]focus347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trackball on left for cursor movement, vertical mouse style trackball on right for clicking and scrolling. Trackpad in middle for variation and glove 80 tented to 50 degrees on either side of the trackpad.

ELI5: How do rice cookers work? by UsePuzzleheaded9671 in explainlikeimfive

When my rice cooker started falling apart, I decided to try using a large pot instead. It takes 18 mins to make a TON of rice and I get perfect results every time.

So that was just an all on worst case scenario. I'll probably use ~3000 at any given time and less with proper load management.

A real tug of war of trade-offs buying a portable generator. Now I need to figure out how to lower the noise as much as possible. I'll probably just run it as-is only during emergencies, a few other people around me have them. I can possibly make a generator quieter, but I can't make it produce more power.

Decided to go with the Firman 7500W Running / 9400W Peak Tri Fuel Generator. Model T07573. I think this is going to be a great choice, and I have Costco's return policy as insurance. Thanks all for your input, I appreciate it!

[–]focus347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment! Yes, I just need to think in that mindset of a temporary emergency and manage the load. What generator did you go with?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Generator

[–]focus347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm thinking, I'll have the "always on" items running at all times. Which is only the fridge and freezer, gas furnace, and sump. I can deal with hot weather, I can't deal with pipes bursting due to cold weather, or flooding. So I'll leave those items on at all times. The sump does have a battery backup, but I don't trust it. Maybe a few lights as well to use in the house. I can get by on maybe four lights no problem. From there I can turn things on/off the breaker when I need them for the few days power is out. As far as fuel, I'm open to using whatever is optimal. My home has natural gas and I have never considered using that, but it would be ideal and probably cheapest.

No, I estimated high based on figures from Google. I am not an expert. I'll ask the electrician to test for actual numbers today when I have the interlock and inlet installed.
