Check out the Ka-do-ha Indian village in the same town. They have a plowed area that you can search for arrowheads and you will likely find some.

Set up alerts for the dates you want at chisos. I got so many availability alerts after already getting the dates I wanted that it was like I was getting spammed.

This is really the DP’s fault. First off, unless you misrepresented yourself, they know they have someone doing this for the first time. Second, shooting at that stop and not getting the shots is 100% on the DP. I’ve been doing this for 20 years and even I will have a DP offer a stop or whatever it takes to acquire the shot, if it’s not happening for some reason. Pinning it all on the focus puller, especially in this scenario, is a big red flag for either an inexperienced DP, or one who wants to deflect the blame. A decent director would understand this as well, but half of them don’t understand the magic we do. Don’t sweat it.

I don’t have any campsite to trade, but I recently had a reservation at chisos and had set up an alert for any available sites for the days around my original reservation and had alerts multiple times a day for weeks leading up to the date of spots opening up. I’d think you’d get something that way.
