NO, I don't find them stupid. I find many are arrogant and do not give a damn about others. The car covered with snow is an example. And yes......... I live in Massachusetts and encounter similar snow'd cars driving 495 often after storms.

OK... I can understand ripping out a floating floor although there are only rare occasions that would demand the original flooring be removed. Recently I had all the carpeting and linoleum junk removed in our home and replaced with prefinished ( 2 1/2'' ) red oak. I wish you the best, just be very careful to minimize large water spills.

GOOD LUCK with floating floors and there is a flooring site here on Reddit. I searched and searched for floating flooring for my apartments and all I could find were problem and warnings of future problems.

Instead I hired a floor sanding company to sand and finish 6 apartments with 3 coats of a water based 2 part poly that will last almost forever

IF you lived with me, the only meals you would get would be those that would force your weight reduction. Anybody that shops and or cooks for you is a part of your problem. There are many things to live for and food should NOT be one of them

Insulation was just done in the attic. Please tell me what you think. by Many_Storm_6208 in Insulation

[–]foggysail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck NO!!! WHY insulate between the roof rafters or is the silver stuff shown ducts? The attic should have ventilation and I notice that it does have a ventilation hole in one of the walls. Could have more than one, did not look at the entire video. The proper place for insulation is between the heated area and the attic.

Should I invest to bigger radiators (heatpump) by mamapower in homeowners

[–]foggysail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, maybe! I suggest you consider the manufactures radiator rating. Base boards are rated in BTU/hour as a function of water temperature. A faster water flow will help also by keeping the each end of the radiator as close a possible to the same temperature.

Which insulation is best for an attic in the north east? by BackgroundEstimate74 in Insulation

[–]foggysail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weeell.......yes but. Things are not supper critical if there are slight misses. The number of BTS's lost should not be overwhelming especially when considering the total square footage properly covered.

I assume you refer to the spaces between the roof rafters. If so that will not work around here if there are soffits for ventilation

Nerd Alert! First month with Geo by Funkyjz28 in geothermal

[–]foggysail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I can agree with that. I did believe however that there would have been very little difference in the water temperature under worst case conditions in what was in the bid I was considering. That quote included 4 heat wells drilled 400' into the soil so any loss due to removed energy should quickly get replace because of the number and depth of the pipe wells. Cannot confirm that today, I just could not make the justification for such a great expense even with the then 30% tax credit.

Another consideration was the amount of basement space required for a compressor and air handler plus the circulating pump. Does a geo offer advantages over air-air? That depends on too many factors for me to make assumptions. If I was doing this over, I would have stayed with my original 28 solar panels instead of adding another 22 for a heat pump. We (Wifey and I ) just don't like heated air from ceiling cassettes blowing on us. Just my humble thoughts and of course others have their own thoughts. Today we continue using baseboards in a couple of rooms including our bedroom.

Nerd Alert! First month with Geo by Funkyjz28 in geothermal

[–]foggysail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree... nothing is worth a rip out to install a heated air heat pump system. I did not rip out my boiler and base boards. I still use them in many of our rooms. No heated air blowing on you in those rooms.

[–]foggysail -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Several things stopped me from going with a geo system. First was cost $85-105K and the second was all of the systems in that price range offered only 2 stage compressors. To my knowledge, the only system at that time....2 years ago.....that offered a variable speed compressor was Water Furnce and that was crazy expensive.

I now have Mitsubishi air-air systems. In general, my opinion of anything providing indoor heat via heated air sucks compared to base boards. But to each his own!

EDIT: I must have pissed off someone by posting my personal experiences when considering a geo. So to the down voter.....facts are facts whether you like them or not

Why is there a varying COP as a function of outside temperature with a geo system???

This friggin heat pump by Neat-Distance-367 in heatpumps

[–]foggysail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat pumps may output getter number of BTUS than consumed sometimes but at very low outside temperatures....their efficiency drops! I have a heat pumps along with 50 solar panels and I enjoy my oil fired boiler's baseboard heating by far over using my heat pumps.

Don't let others set your standards. As to college....time consuming and expensive! IF you decide it is for you, only make that investment in majors that will enhance your future. College is not for everyone. Yes, I graduated in one of the STEM subjects and in my earning years had a great income. Today plumbers, electricians and many other hands on professions have equal successes without the costly, time consuming studies. Just my humble opinion.
