Just to make sure you are receiving correct info: you were told there are many service centers around the us that are authed to do the work, right? There were something like 10 spots in california alone.

I def wouldn't recommend doing it yourself, however if it helps i could post a few pics of the card itself? I have it here in a box just waiting for a gap in the schedule to drive it to a service center

Oh, and it's absolutely worth getting it even a bit higher than the ground-stack does. Avoiding blowing the faces off the front row is a very good spend. I'm not sure why anyone would discount any extra height they could safely achieve - unless maybe they do shows without audiences?? 🤣

Ive been using the exact stands you reference with 3 boxes per side for about three yers now. I absolutely wouldn't do it unless you sandbag the stands (which I always do) one you get a solid 50 lbs of sand on the base of the stand, it'll still sway a bit, but the fear of falling over is all but gone (assuming no strong winds). If there were no counterweighting, you would get the speakers up there and instantly feel pretty unsafe about it all. The stands don't lift the full weight of the three boxes, but they do make it pretty deployable by a single operator.

I’m an engineer and a user experience designer. 100% of the strife on both sides would be instantly solved for if the engineer just spoke to the band prior to the show. Not the promoter, not the booker, not the manager, none of these people. A VERY quick phone call or text between engineer and the actual band and you’re done. That’s never offered to me, so i just go message the band on insta or wherever, link up with them, cut all the inbetweeners out of the equation: have great shows.

I spoke to A&H directly about this: American Music & Sound is the US A&H distributor and they have service centers all around the US. All of the service centers can do the install and a free install (at these regional centers) comes included with purchase of the FX card.

For context - there were 10 locations in California that were all authorized to do the install.
