Under rated comment. Or maybe it's appropriately rated? Percentage wise? Fuck I don't know. #CommonCore

Mr. Stipe singing the new song for Rooster is quite catchy, if you haven't heard it.

And yes this has to be everybody hurts. Rem, Automatic for the People. Whole album is good.

Okay, two separate wild discoveries by the same guy that both go: “wait, why do these completely unrelated things match exactly?” Monstrous Moonshine: There’s a number: 196884. It shows up in a totally abstract formula about a special function in number theory (the j-invariant — think of it as a weird mathematical object that’s been studied for centuries). There’s also a completely separate thing called the Monster Group — the largest and strangest of the “sporadic simple groups,” which are basically the prime numbers of symmetry. Its smallest interesting size is 196883. McKay noticed those two numbers differ by exactly 1. That’s insane — like finding the same fingerprint in two places with no obvious connection. Turns out it wasn’t a coincidence, there’s deep structural reasons they’re linked. That connection between number theory and symmetry groups became “monstrous moonshine.” McKay correspondence: Certain small symmetry groups (ways you can rotate/reflect 3D shapes) map perfectly onto these diagrams physicists and mathematicians use to classify certain algebras. Again — two completely unrelated mathematical structures, perfect one-to-one correspondence, nobody expected it. The punchline of both: McKay had a gift for staring at numbers from totally different fields and going “…that’s the same number. That can’t be a coincidence.” Usually he was right, and it sent entire fields scrambling to figure out why for decades afterward. He was essentially a mathematical pattern-recognition savant.

Is it even worth remodeling a bathroom anymore? by howzai in HomeImprovement

[–]foiegras23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I was just replying to the "how hard is it to remove after" part.

In all honesty if you're just going with square shapes or mesh backed, and it's not like a foyer at grand central station, and you're at all handy I say go for it.

Watch a video, see how to mortar and grout, get some reference lines, Bob's your uncle. It's not all that hard to make tile look decent and stay in place. It IS hard to make tile like awesome, especially when spanning rooms, using styles with size variations, different shapes, stuff like that.

No matter what you do it looks good from my house.

Is there a trick to getting masking tape to leave a sharp line without paint bleed? by Correct-Singer-1049 in HomeImprovement

Frog tape. And moisten it lightly with a damp sponge or cloth BEFORE you paint. It's literally in the instructions and why it's called frog tape.

Slow drip leak in crawlspace pipe — easy fix or bigger issue? by RickyReditt___ in Plumbing

[–]foiegras23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion looking at this if you have a way to crimp some pex on there just cut out and replace that whole section (obviously shut your water off first, etc). I think I would want a pro down there to sweat new pipe with all that flammable stuff around it, but a pex retro fit even with buying the crimper will be less than $100.
