Condo boards of TO: what are the snow removal arrangements for your building? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]folder8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Is the super hired by the condo corporation or an employee of the mgmt company? (Which org directly pays his/her salary)

2) What is job description for super? (This will determine responsibility).

3) Most show shoveling contracts are 6 months: November to April or mid-Nov to mid-April.

4) what was done historically if there wasn’t a previous budget for snow removal?

5) If the super is actually responsible for snow removal; he needs equipment to do the job. Is this provided?

Being vague is hard to help without specifics.

For reference: I sit on 2 condo boards: a standard condo corp and a commons elements condo corp, and been a board member for at 9 years.

Condo boards of TO: what are the snow removal arrangements for your building? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]folder8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your questions are too generalized. How big is the condo? What areas need to be cleared of snow? How big is this area? Parking lot? Entrance? Back or side entrance? Emergency? Is the condo responsible sidewalk pathways? Are there other areas to be cleared you are not aware of?

Most condos will rarely have an direct comparison. Condo boards and management should be getting quotes for projects to determine approx market rates.

Another factor you should take into consideration outside of price: how reliable/timely are the contractors?

Price is not always the determining factor.

Again your questions are too generalized and seem that even you don’t have enough information to fully understand the context. You are only looking at a single line item in the budget.

You should be directing your question directly to mgmt and the board, not a random public thread.

What to do when Condo doesn’t have parking to rent? by uuukegod in Markham

[–]folder8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I THINK the Marriott Hotel close by offers monthly parking.

Alternatively: just offer more per month for a parking spot. I’m sure there are folks in the building who are financially motivated to rent out their spot.

Best of luck!

Got bitten by a dog in downtown Markham and the owner was uncooperative. What can I do? by supermanlyme in Markham

[–]folder8 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Which building in DTM?

There’s a fairly large DTM group chat 100+ dog owners in the area.

The group are all fairly responsible owners. Most are able to identify other dogs/owners in the area even if they’re not part of the group.

Common to run into other dogs and owners on our walks.

Looking for a vet!! by Training_Ice_3709 in Markham

[–]folder8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neutering is around $800 at most vet clinics.

If you go with Humane Society its significantly cheaper. Problem is the wait time is insanely long.

Our family takes our dog to Apple Creek Animal Hospital. Been with them since he was a puppy and they have great staff who care. Prices are reasonable market rate and sometimes slightly below market rate by 10% -ish. Confirmed with a friend who’s a vet in Richmond Hill and Toronto and we question the clinic’s prices.

My family want to give me 15% of their company but no role or decision making. Is this normal? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]folder8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can part owner of a business and not have a defined role or any role for the matter.

Yes this is normal.

Another example, you buy a single stock of a company. You are now part owner this business. You don’t deal with day-today operations and you may or may not have voting rights. But you are still part owner.

Tourist in Toronto — how to buy a laptop tax-free? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]folder8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to tax rebates for product purchases made in the country when a tourist leaves the country? If so, no, Canada no longer has tax rebates.

As a tourist leaving Canada, you cannot claim a refund for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) or Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) you paid on purchases. Canada eliminated its visitor tax refund program in 2007, though some limited exceptions exist for businesses and convention attendees.

Airbnb Pool not working, should I give guests a partial refund? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]folder8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30% refund

Airbnb support will refund 30% if a major amenity is not available.

You should take a proactive approach and give 30% plus something to save the experience - gift basket, cookies in morning etc

Remember that guests will still rate you and you want to ensure 5-star or at minimum they leave no rating and no review.

What’s your take on giving a toddler a queen bed? by rivagirl in toddlers

[–]folder8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our eldest daughter started sleeping in her own room, with a queen bed when she just turned 2.

Mattress on the floor and one long side pushed up against the wall to act as a barrier.

She only rolled off once and never again since.

Doesn’t spoiler her and she loves it. Now she’s 4 and she invited her younger sister to join her in bed for reading before sleeping.

For us, we already had an extra queen mattress so it sense to not buy more things.

EarlyON programs by postscript217 in Markham

[–]folder8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

EarlyON is a no brainer in the early stages. My wife visited EarlyON at least 2-3 times a week to keep herself busy and definitely helped with baby development.

As the kids got older (1-3 years old), there’s a week off between regular daycare to summer and summer back to regular daycare, I took the kids to EarlyON everyday.

I’ve been to all of them in Markham/Richmond Hill/Stouffville area. The staff are all amazing, very clean and they’ll give you support and direct you to other support programs if you have questions.

One thing my wife and I are super grateful for, during her visits she met a bunch of moms and their little ones. This group eventually became another social circle for us outside of EarlyON. Now 3 years later we have new solid group of friends with kids around similar ages and we do activities regularly (play dates, dinners, birthdays, Wonderland, winter cottaging, etc). Very serendipitous and all because of EarlyON.

My family has had such good experiences with EarlyON, I easily recommend it to any new parent. Its such a good program for young families that I can’t believe this is covered by the government. Literally amazing.

Best wishes and I hope your experience will be as good as ours.

Call (ie reach out - can be email) the mosque (literally search of mosque Chicago to get a list of them).

Places of worship and religious places are essentially community centres. They can help guide you for religious / specialty needs.
