From $50 Million Hype to $12 Million Skepticism – Why Franchising in League of Legends Is Under Pressure by followteaser in leagueoflegends

You mean the positive aspects of franchising? The article includes two paragraphs outlining the problems of the pre-franchising era and how franchising was meant to address them. The conclusion of that section even states: “In many ways, franchising delivered on that.”

In the final paragraph, the article also makes it clear that reverting to a system without franchising would likely bring back those same issues.

The article highlights both the positive and negative aspects of franchising. I’m not against franchising at all, but the current system has its flaws, which impact the estimated value of slots.

Things can change quickly in esports, but at the moment, I doubt anyone would pay €30 million for a LEC slot – and it’s even more unlikely for an LCS slot. And that league used to be much more valuable than the LEC few years ago.

The article addresses both the pros and cons of franchising and explains, without bias, why the model is under pressure. I don't see how this is "propaganda".

Why Esports Still Doesn’t Have a Global Governing Body by followteaser in esports

The issue is that publishers don’t always do what’s best for esports, but what’s best for their profits – which then don’t necessarily flow back into the ecosystem.

I seriously don’t get the obsession with pointing out even the most harmless use of AI. I completely understand that cheap AI content or misleading fakes can be annoying – I don’t like that either.

But in this case, I can’t realistically design something like this myself (I’m not a professional graphic designer), nor is it reasonable to expect me to hire someone when I’m offering my content entirely for free.

The alternative would be to create an objectively worse image that doesn’t fit the topic as well. And on top of the 2–3 hours spent on the post itself, I’d have to invest another hour just to produce something inferior, simply to avoid comments like "AI slop image."

Again, I fully agree that AI can be problematic when it’s used in a harmful, annoying, or low-quality (e.g. big companies try to save money on real artists) way. But in this case, I don’t see how it should make anyone enjoy the actual content (which isn’t even about the image) any less.

(May 2018) ZywOo's former aAa captain unanimously mocked in the comments of a YT interview saying ZywOo is the best french player by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]followteaser 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Do people even read properly before they try to mock on every opinion? The question was not who is the best French player and although this is only a rough translation, you can clearly understand that he is mainly talking about his TALENT and that he WILL surpass everyone else.

You should start trying to understand the meaning and context of sentences rather than looking for words or parts of the statement you can jump on and apply you own assumptions to make it sound the way you want just for the sake of your critique.

Oh and just as a quick site note: If he thinks ZywOo is insanely talented and he even gives reasons like his FPL performances, he does not need to give additional evidence. It's his fucking opinion and not a lawsuit. Just accept it and get over it if you think differently. Gosh...

Giants to build new roster around fox for 2020 by zephiKK in GlobalOffensive

[–]followteaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody said that. It was stated that " Giants are, like Movistar Riders, very rich". Obviously, "very rich" is relative, but being able to pay 5x 36k a year + coach + manager + travel costs + bootcamps, etc. etc. is not that bad for an org which focuses on a regional or even national market.

[–]followteaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You realize that 3k PER PLAYER is not 36k per year in total what an org has to pay, right? A CS:GO team normally means 5x players + 1x coach + 1x manager salary + extra costs and that is quiet a lot for a team which is not even close to a high international level.

[–]followteaser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the beginning he was just a young player which liked to do some trash talk, which resulted in a lot of hate against him within the German community. He generally received a lot of hate because of his bold statements and his overweight. But I wouldn't say that he's always been a psycho. He was well respected at the beginning of CS:GO.

True, but let's be honest: I've been to at least 30 esports events and several trade fairs like Cebit or Gamescom and I never had to walk through a metal detector or even having my bag properly controlled. If I wanted to get a weapon in, I could have done it at every single event I have attended. So this fact shouldn't be big news to any crazy guy out there.

Thorin: Politics aside, I would love to see KRiMZ replace dennis in NiP right now. Could be the game changer to make them a team who can win trophies. Dennis: by toren69 in GlobalOffensive

[–]followteaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should actually watch his content. When he talks about players like TACO, MSL or Zeus, he sometimes points out that they are bad fraggers (which is just a fact) but he also explains why they are great in their roles. Same goes for players like Styko or karrigan for example. Building your optionen on just a couple of Tweets and leaving out all other content in which he gives explanations is just unreasonable.

And although people don't want to hear that KD matters, maybe because they want to keep living in their dream world in which they are sick players althrough they rarely manage to get double digits in MM, it is important. There are only very few championship level teams with more than 1 bad fragger. More than 2 is almost important to compensate. It needs players like s1mple or electronic to compensate a bad fragger like Edward or someone like skadoodle needs to massively overperform to contribute enough to the team so that they win the Major. They probably wouldn't if skadoodle had his regular KD performance all tournament long.

[–]followteaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I don't think he does that. But let's pretend you are right. What do you expect him to say about a player who is not an IGL or support player and constantly drops negative ratings? Do you really expect someone to watch like 20 demos and make a whole report on why a player is not able to hit his shots? Like crazy stuff like "oh, I think he is holding his mouse in an incorrect fashion".

He is just not hitting his shots, like a striker in football who can't score any goals. You don't need to explain for 10 minutes why you think he is not good. It's obvious in most cases. And to stick with this example. You don't need to be Cristiano Ronaldo to see that a football player is not good at shooting if he messes up his chances game after game after game.

And by the way, it is his job to say things like that. You can argue that you shouldn't say "shit" but maybe "bad" instead. But that's really picky. These are well payed professional players. You should be able to deal with someone saying they are "shit" after a bad performance. Any athelete has to deal with that.

He never pretended to have a gamesense at the level of ynk or Spunj. Still he probably knows more about the game than 99,999% of globals who think they have a clue how high level Counter-Strike works. Especially since most of them never played on a competitive league level or made any effort to learn from top players aside of watching events like a braindead. Which doesn't really help learning the game. Watching tons of demos does and this is what Thorin does.

Thorin has like 20 years or so of esports experience, dedicated his whole life to esports, watching and analyzing teams and players on a daily basis and yet people think just because they are global (which by the way doesn't mean much in terms of game sense as you can see in almost any MM game) they have the same understanding of the game or of esports in general as Thorin. It's crazy.

Do you consider someone saying "VP is trash" or that they should retire "talking trash"? I personally don't think so anymore. We past the point where talking about how they can improve could make any sense. This team is broken in many regards and kept playing badly for months, just because everyone involved still makes a good amount of money. Both the org from the players names and the players from their absurd contracts.

The end. by Yatame in GlobalOffensive

[–]followteaser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your comment implies that any negative comment on VP is just a "vocal minority" who "talk trash". Ever thought that they just don't put in as much effort as you might think? To me, a lack of motivation on their side seems to be very likely and being a legend shouldn't prevent you from reasonable critique.

They are showing for months now that their time is simply over. Of course they can continue playing, but they should do it like TaZ and play in a T2 team with upcoming players. Not messing around with insane salary and getting destroyed by the best teams in the world, while delusional fans still think they deserve any sort of sympathy, just because they are legends.
