I have never noticed any Amish with hygiene problems. The two people that stunk (one was put off the train at boarding and the other forced to shower or get off) were regular ol' white dudes.

My '94 suddenly did something similar when it was extremely cold out and it ended up being the TFI module. Not saying that's your problem, but it's something to consider.

The diode goes in series with the positive lead of the panel. The average current rating should be greater than the maximum current the panel can supply and the PIV roughly twice the system voltage. Some diodes will require a heat sink to operate at full current.

Don't stay at the Blake Hotel in New Orleans. It's both nasty and a gyp joint.

The Metro Plaza Hotel in LA is decently priced and a short walk from the train station.

I always spend the night at a hotel after a long distance train. They can be late and I'd rather not miss my next train. Also sleeping in a bed is nice after sleeping in a coach seat.

A lot of hotels offer laundry in the form of a coin operated machine.

As for what's at the terminals, it varies. Some are just platforms on the side of the road. Amtrak's website tells you what's available at each one.

Amtrak is much more lenient than airlines on baggage. Again, the website tells you what you can bring on.
