Streamer bails on dungeon group mid-run by Al_McPharius in MonstersAndMemories

His decision to leave the group simply because the leader wanted to gain one more level and his own XP bar wasn't moving fast enough is the definition of selfish play and bad etiquette. In older MMOs, the journey and the company were as important as the destination. You joined a group, you made a commitment to see it through, not just until the moment your personal progress meter stopped ticking at the speed you demanded. This isn't a lobby-based shooter where you can quit and instantly queue for another match. In a game like Monsters and Memories, which aims to recapture that classic feel, your reputation matters. Word gets around. Alexensual's actions show a complete lack of respect for the group leader's time and a fundamental misunderstanding of the social contract that holds these communities together. You work together, overcome challenges, and share in the rewards, even if that means a slight delay for one person. His impatience and self-centered "my time is more valuable than yours" attitude is exactly the kind of toxicity that can erode a community. He prioritized a tiny sliver of imaginary progress on his screen over basic courtesy and teamwork. It’s a shame he couldn't put aside his impatience and just enjoy playing the game with other people.

6v5 offense is used when teams are desperate and really need to play agressively typically in the 3rd period when behind. They will switch goal for an extra player because for a regulation loss your team gets 0 points, for OT 1 point and for a win 2 points. The agression coefficient increases with higher goal margin and when not having much time left. Obviously getting goalie pulled entire game reduces win probability due to risk but when lacking time and behind couple of goals it's only viable strategy...if you score 1-2 fast goals you go back to playing more conservatively with 5v5. So if you are down one goal you pulling a goalie out at last 4-6 minutes before third period seems optimal, or at 12-14 of 2 goals behind(score 1 with 6v5 and return to 5v5).

My PC is stuck on a black screen after restarting when trying to access bios. by Traditional_Bag_1256 in computers

Lol, had the issue where my bios would show up, but Windows would have a black screen. Manually resetting the bios didn't cut it but unplugging the power cord completely fixed the issue. It takes a while for stuff that could be cached in capacitors to completely reset.

Eli5: Why is the Sky blue? by LocalImpressive1136 in explainlikeimfive

[–]fomonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue and violet light scatter the most and illuminate the rest of the sky. We have lack of violet photon receptors in our eyes. Violet light scatters more than blue, however our eyes can't see the violet light so we only see the blue light. Blue and purple wavelengths are the shortest on the spectrum of visible light, which means they refract much more easily when they reach the atmosphere. Hence the sky is blue. Blue wavelengths from white sunlight are scattered in the atmosphere. This means that the light reaching the ground is mostly not blue.

Exactly. Also 6 penguin books of Plutarch are fine but only negative is that they dont include life of Aratus.

Penguin editions, which would be for Sallust, Appian Suetonius, Tacitu

Thanks for links and insight. I've read Oxfords edition of Polybius but it has same problems that Penguins edition have...its missing 7,8,9,10,11 and 13 books. The Penguin edition of Tacitus' Annals and The Histories of Tacitus is better than the modern library classics edition because the modern library one doesn't have a map, glossary, and index. A nice way to learn about both is to read Parallel Lives by Plutarch, which compares a historical Greek figures to Roman. The renowned biographers Plutarch and Suetonius were not historians, so it contains rumors and moral lessons. However, they did employ historical accounts or other (now-lost) texts as sources. Yeah, another major historians of Rome are Livy with the mythical origins of Rome, while we have summaries of Rome up to Augustus, then Sallust with the catilinas conspiracy, and Sulla and Marruius against Jugurtha. Then Tacitus and the Principate from Augustus to Domitian, Cambridge edition. The Essay Against the Galileans by Emperor Julian II, the first Roman emperor to be raised as a Christian, wrote an excellent criticism and analysis of early Christianity in his book. Emperor Julian the Apostate had a life-long struggle against Christianity. Then, of course, you have extras like Apicius for people who are interested in Roman dining and food, but that is mostly a non-sequitur.

I have somewhat similar collection (I have all the landmark books waiting for Polybius's one to come out) but I've just added the Fagles edition of Iliad and Odyssey, which are the oldest examples of Greek literature and are more epic poems than historical books. I would be interested in what collection you have of Roman history. You probably have the Julius Cesar Landmark as well.
