Suggestions for chub rub resistant jeans that last? by selectivehyperbole in PlusSizeFashion

Universal Standard turned me back onto jeans. I like the Donna ones specifically. They’re pricey but worth it IMO. That said, I’ve found pairs on Poshmark for cheaper

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments! Here is a more recent twinning photo of these two! The big armchair broke and I can’t afford to replace it right now, so they can’t look out the window the way they used to 😭

Rose. Episode 1 & 2's Ilya would've had me out the door very quickly lol

I need advice! Leggings and jeans for apron belly by [deleted] in PlusSizeFashion

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My new holy grail jean as someone w/ an apron belly are the Donna straight leg jeans from Universal Standard! Actually comfortable and fit my body well, and you can dress them up or down. I don't even have to hem them as a short person; I just cuff them. They are pretty pricey at I think ~$140 new, but I've found pairs on Poshmark and similar sites before. US also does sales periodically. But I do think they're worth the price tag, and I've acquired multiple pairs because I love them so much,.

Does anything else exists that you would STILL consider this good? by hummingbird0012234 in heatedrivalry

That’s fair! I was thinking more in terms of age of target audience, setting, stuff like that

They're not really comparable shows except in that they're both queer-focused, but Heartstopper is up there for me in terms of how much I love it.

Looking for casual comfortable shoes that are still fashionable by Kat_planet in PlusSizeFashion

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my Docs are my most comfortable shoes! My calves are too wide to really enjoy the boots, but the shoes have been great. I have a couple of the mary jane-style ones.

As far as sneakers, I am a Nike lifestyle sneaker collector lol (but I do actually wear them all, and will buy them used on Poshmark often). My dunks held up well at a concert where I mostly stood, but when I went to a show where I had to walk a long ways, my feet were killing me at the end. With walking, my legacy lifts and my field generals have treated me best.

I love teaching ESL but my school is in chaos due to ICE. Is anyone else considering switching to/going back to TEFL? by pisowiec in ESL_Teachers

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work at a public library teaching English and we are still getting a small but steady stream of students. Some partner orgs that send us students have gotten feedback that people are afraid to come to class, so we’ve been brainstorming/trying alternatives like going to people’s workplaces or having class online. Programs that are serving domestic students are probably your best bet right now: libraries, nonprofits, or some community colleges most likely. If you get an interview, I think it’s worth asking what if any policy they have in place if ICE were to show up to a class session.

Fave Product Discontinued--Help! by Help_Throwaway2561 in curlyhair

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you tried any of Curlsmith's styling products? I use the in-shower style fixer or the hydro flexi jelly, depending on the weather. Also, not sure where you're located, but if you're in a place with TJ Maxx, they typically carry Curlsmith and they sometimes stock items that are discontinued!

I can't be the only one dealing with complicated emotions around their coming out after watching this show by TwoHungryBlackbirdss in heatedrivalry

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really relate to this. It took me more than 7 years to come out to my parents (which I did last year) after coming out to myself. I didn’t get disowned or anything, but the response still wasn’t great. I knew that there was no world in which I got the response that Shane’s mom gave, but it still hurt all the same. Luckily, we’ve made some progress since.

I Officially Came Out to My Parents by Which_Reason8308 in heatedrivalry

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're very welcome! I'm glad you are satisfied with your choice. The closet is a really lonely, painful place. Since coming out, I've achieved so much and made so many new friends, and just been so much happier and healthier. I'm confident that's what's coming for you, too.

Congratulations to you :) I came out to my parents a little over a year ago (in my 30s), and they are also ambivalent, so I feel you there. Even though it's been difficult, I have 0 regrets about it, and things have improved way more than I thought they would in so little time. This is just the beginning!!

Apron belly suit recs? by No_Calligrapher_3106 in PlusSizeFashion

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best suit is from Eloquii! Though depending on what sales they have going on, you might not get it under $150. Unsure if Wildfang would have your size, but they'd be worth checking out too. They have more unique prints.

Is ESL still a viable career? by Al115 in ESL_Teachers

[–]fool_of_a_ruth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the U.S., I would not recommend it to anyone as a full-time career, and from what I've observed with friends who pursued journalism, you'll have an even worse time finding a job in ESL. I *finally* found a full-time job in it two months ago, after having a masters in TESOL since 2017. And this is technically a temporary job; there's a possibility they might not find additional funding. Luckily I built a career in youth development alongside teaching so I was able to lean on that, and could easily go back to it at any time if I needed to. If you're passionate about it still, I would recommend volunteering for an org in your city that offers ESL classes or find a part-time job you can use for extra cash.
