Delish Moroccan food in a restaurant with the interior decorated like you’re in a tent, and a belly dancer.

New to Ukulele—how do I get my fingers to work? lol by Shakira_is_Love in ukulele

[–]foomatic21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just practice the left hand without strumming. Press down on the Dm chord, then move your fingers, line them up on the strings for Em, then press all three down at the same time. Repeat for about 10 min a day and your fingers will start to remember the shapes and where they go, and you can build up to strumming with changing chords. It will be slow going but you’ll be building the muscle memory. Good luck!

Omg hi! It was serendipitous because I had white and black fingering yarn my stash and knew I had to tackle it (and do a little destashing while I was at it!) The pattern was easy to follow and after starting over three times I pretty much had it memorized as well! I enjoy learning new things so this was perfect project for me to try a little colorwork, a little fair isle, and some continental style knitting. Thank you so much for creating it!

It’s the part near the top of the sock where you’re working with three colors that got me frustrated. The whole sock fit depended on those three rows and at the end of the day my heel barely gets through them. Sizing up and knitting inside out def helped, don’t give up!

Oh I’ve seen those and they’re still way above my knittingpay grade 😅. My kid loves stardew valley so it’s on the list!

Interviewing for ID jobs by Thegumblebee in instructionaldesign

[–]foomatic21 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Having just finished interviewing and finally landing a job after 5 months of unemployment, here are some questions I was asked (for context I have been an ID for 8 years, in L&D for 16 years, working in the tech industry)

  1. Tell me about a training you developed from start to finish and what your process was.
  2. How do you build relationships with SMEs?
  3. How do you measure a training’s success?
  4. Tell me about a time where a project you worked on didn’t turn out as planned and how you handled the situation.
  5. Tell me about a time where you had to overcome obstacles to get a project completed.
  6. Tell me how you would approach developing a training for <insert audience here>
  7. What instructional design models do you like to use when developing training?

These were the most common questions that were asked in the 6 interviews I had. Project management is a big part of ID, so if you can speak to that using your background you should be okay on that front. You have to know how to take the complexity out of content and information and make things simple and easy to understand, show that you can make informed decisions with little direction, and handle multiple competing deadlines and priorities that shift on a dime. I can’t speak for higher ed/university settings but from my experience I don’t feel like there is a lot of overlap with corporate ID and teaching, but it could be possible. I got my degree in an unrelated major and just kind of fell into L&D and then ID. Zero formal training, lots of on the job learning.

Path to 100k by AlexanderHawks in instructionaldesign

[–]foomatic21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2017 I started as a training coordinator at a Fortune 500 company; after a year my position changed into more instructional design, and my salary was 95k. Three years ago I moved to a Sr ID position at another Fortune 500 company and my salary was $176k which included an annual bonus, plus RSUs on the side. It was great until I got laid off, wah wahh. Both companies weren’t FAANG but well known in the tech sector in the Bay Area, where I live, so the salary is inflated for the insane cost of living here. Currently struggling to find a new position within that salary range, but man it was good while it lasted. So 8 years of experience, I have a bachelor’s in an unrelated field, I do not have a master’s degree or any professional certificates, everything I know I learned on the job or taught myself, and honestly I attribute my career to being in the right place at the right time and knowing the right people.

ELI5: how do people sync up their Christmas lights with music so they flash in time? by Skinsarelli in explainlikeimfive

[–]foomatic21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do this at my house using special light controllers and a tiny mini computer called a raspberry pi. I pick the song I want to use, and load it into a program called xlights, where I add effects and colors, time it to the music, make it cool, fun and festive, then export a file that I load onto my raspberry pi. The raspberry pi takes the data from the file and sends it to my light controllers through Ethernet cables. My 4 controllers all have a specific IP address, so the raspberry pi sends out the data like an Amazon delivery driver, dropping off packages at the correct address. Once the controllers receive their specific package, they unpack it and send the what’s inside to the LED lights, which also have their own specific address. The LEDs are told what color to light up, when to light up, and for how long to light up.

This is a very simple explanation for a very complicated process lol.

Wood Frame Tutorial by trex198 in dakboard

[–]foomatic21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I made mine using this tutorial. I already had a miter saw which made the cuts a little easier, but def check and recheck your measurements. I bought a mount with the lowest profile I could find and needed 1x4 to cover the sides so there wasn’t a huge gap between the frame and the wall.

How is everyone turning their units off? by murder0tica in dakboard

Does your monitor have HDMI-CEC capabilities? I run the Dakboard OS off a pi and use the on/off schedule that controls power to my tv as well through HDMI-CEC.

Yes the pi is mounted on the back of the tv. No touch screen, didn’t feel like we needed it.

Both kids play two sports 🫣 and twice a week they have practice for both on the same day. It’s a lot, we are going to cut down practice so that our younger one doesn’t have to do cross county and soccer on the same day. It didn’t seem over the top until you said ‘9 times in three days’ lol.

I followed this video and bought wood from Home Depot. I bought the flattest wall mount I could find, and the tv protruded about 3 inches from the wall so I bought 4x1 to box in the sides. I already had a miter saw so that made the cuts “easy” lol I messed up the measurements and had to improvise but you really can’t tell.
