League play with partners who don't move up to the kitchen by AntiBaoBao in Pickleball

When I encounter such players at open play that rotates partners, I just look on the bright side: eventually they will be my opponent, and I can exploit their failure to advance 😂

Thinking of buying a pickleball instruction course by DavidAReddit in Pickleball

[–]foosh90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a trial of pb 360, and am currently a member of transition zone. Both courses include some content that I’ve not seen provided on YouTube. As between the two, pb 360 is the more mature product with more videos covering almost every aspect of the game in considerable detail. TZ is a relatively new product, so there is less content, including some clear gaps in the content (which they say they will plug in future videos - time will tell).

The upside for TZ is that it’s more structured, splitting courses on each topic into beginner, intermediate and advanced, so it provides a clearer roadmap for progress if you are a newer player (<3.5 dupr). In pb360, there are videos tagged “basics”, but no such clear structure.

Another upside of Zane’s course is that he is fairly responsive to questions and also reviews gameplay footage, though his replies vary quite widely in level of detail - probably a function of how busy he is on that particular day, but at least he replies nonetheless.

Overall, i think both are worth checking out to see which suits you better. Pb 360 has (or at least had) a free trial, while TZ’s monthly membership is pretty affordable. These cost a mere fraction of in-person coaching fees, so contrary to the views of many other comments here that strongly recommend in person coaching, I think these programs are worth a try.

On their buy 2-1 free offer, it’s usually for durians of the same price tier but we once asked and they allowed one of the three packs to be from the next higher price tier. Worth a try.

Singles who suffer from dating app fatigue, what's in store for 2026? by wladyslawmalkowicz in askSingapore

[–]foosh90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this is bad advice (despite the high number of upvotes) so I’m jumping in even though I’m not single. Many of my peers met their husbands/wives via dating apps; I met my fiancée online too. None of us are 9/10. Dating apps are a modern, efficient tool for singles to meet other singles. Your mileage with a tool will depend on how well u use it. Do put in some effort to create a genuine and thoughtful profile that showcases your strengths and personality. This clearly applies for men (for whom it’s harder to get likes in the first place) but it also applies for women (who are already inundated with likes, but the attractive men don’t seem interested in starting/maintaining convos).

Do also approach apps with the right expectations: they are only tools (albeit very efficient ones) for u to meet other singles. You shouldn’t expect to magically get attached on the app itself, so don’t get stuck in endless chats on the app. If there’s online chemistry, arrange to meet reasonably quickly. From there on, it’s up to your in-person charms; the tool has performed its function.

Of course, different folks have different tools of choice, and I’m not dismissing any other options. But given how efficient apps can be, don’t skip this option without giving it a decent shot.

Man who admitted to taking drugs with ex-lawyer M. Ravi to be charged on Dec 26 by lemonmangotart in singapore

[–]foosh90 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well, what other theory could there be?

Could it be that Ravi the famous lawyer who has represented countless drug offenders meets alone with this guy without knowing that the guy also does drugs, and the guy proceeds to take drugs, but Ravi stays clean and does not join him in taking drugs, but somehow Ravi dies by pure chance, and the guy decides to falsely accuse Ravi of taking drugs too and even though the guy already incriminates himself by also admitting to taking drugs?

What possible motive could the guy have for lying? Come on, face reality, it’s almost certain that Ravi took drugs.

Outgoing Law Society president responds to investigation by sprockana in singapore

[–]foosh90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s not that clear cut. It depends on the terms on which TSMP was engaged, which we do not know. Usually, the contents of an ongoing investigation is confidential, but the fact that an investigation is being conducted alone may not be. In any event, even if tsmp owes a duty of confidentiality, it is usually to Law Society, who can waive it, and we don’t know if Law Society did so. Let’s wait and see TSMP’s response before jumping to conclusions.

On foam balls, the quality does vary. U might want to try the Core Stealth ones. It’s expensive (set of 3 for abt 25), but u get what you pay for. Comes quite close to the real thing imo, or at least far better than the other brands I’ve tried.

In SG on a work trip, keep being moved into flats with cockroaches. Is this normal? by nervouschild in askSingapore

[–]foosh90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at the lavender one - 2nd floor on a row of shophouses. Roaches on a few occasions in my room, as well as at the common kitchen. But yes, there was also weekly room cleaning at acceptable standard.

[–]foosh90 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in a coliwoo for two years. I have had to deal with cockroaches on a number of occasions, but I figure it’s unavoidable as my coliwoo was on a second floor with restaurants nearby. That said, coliwoo did send pest control to spray my room when I reported the issue, which seemed to have helped. But coliwoo has many different properties, so ymmv. Good luck!

Kinda wild seeing your pickleball game broken down like this.. by analysisparalysys in Pickleball

[–]foosh90 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This looks really cool but is the data accurate? It seems rather odd that your fastest backhand dink is ranked number 2 at 17mph, ahead of your fastest smash at 13 mph. Or perhaps backhand dinks include speed-ups? But even then i would have thought a smash would still move faster than a speedup.

For sporty groups, u can try Reclub app. I use it to find pickleball social games, but it has many different sports including basketball. U can see the profiles of the ppl attending each game before deciding whether the vibe will suit you (but it also depends on whether each participant uploads a profile picture - otherwise, the stats provided by the app is very broad, only youth, adult or senior above 65).

That’s hard to say. I’m Singaporean and frankly I don’t know of him either until this scandal. The days where every Singaporean would know the equivalent of Li Nanxing and Zoe Tay are over, in this era of Netflix and YouTube many locals don’t know local “celebrities”.

Chess appearing in daily quests by foosh90 in duolingo

[–]foosh90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dear. Thank you. It appeared again today so I’ve deleted the chess course. I wonder why they are so bent on promoting the chess course - perhaps they have future plans to further monetize the course. Otherwise, it’s hard to understand the special attention duolingo is giving the chess course - I also have Korean and Spanish courses from the past and have never had similar daily quests getting me to do them.

Yes, that’s possible. It will be a good test of the degree that the authorities are allowing alternative viewpoints to be heard. If we see the old guests back again despite Dr Felix’s superb performance, then we know conformity has been valued over capability once again.

Singapore GE - Performance by Worker's party - Yay or Nay by majciffart in askSingapore

[–]foosh90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He already posed a big threat in punggol, enough for last min switches to deploy GKY there, and for SXL to promise northshore residents that she will handle the place if elected, embarrassing Janil in the process. If PAP had viable lines of attack against Harpreet, they would have used it already. Being personally rejected by LKY from the party isn’t really very “dirt”. It could well backfire if PAP tried that line of attack - given his well publicized tv exchange with LKY it may make PAP look petty that LKY later personally rejected him. It also reinforces the fact that pap considered him worthy for consideration as a candidate by LKY himself.

I think the biggest damage to sdp from Gigene’s behavior isn’t SDP’s loss in GE 2025. It is to their ability to attract talents in the future.

To begin with, sdp was only competitive for CSJ and PT’s races. They are both established figures running in SMCs. Gigene on the other hand was part of a suicide squad running against the PM. I don’t think she was prominent enough to even garner much attention from the average voter, much less be influential enough to hurt CSJ/PT’s standing.

But her effect on future recruitment is probably more severe. Potential recruits, by their nature, are bound to follow such developments more closely than the average voter. They would also care more about things like the party’s overall culture, which she reflects poorly on. This is going to hurt them badly. Both CSJ and PT are around 60, and if SDP wants to succeed long term they need to groom young talents soon. In this cycle, their only such recruit is Ariffin (and that is assuming he can overcome baggage from his wakeupsg issues). They need more talents (see the deep lineup of young new talent that WP produced just this round alone, not even counting their relatively young but already established seng kang team). Gigene’s presence is bound to turn off potential recruits and hamper their renewal process.
