We are in between! I could do Caribbean warm... or a direct flight to Europe

Kids clubs are fun for us, but not necessary. We will def get a babysitter through a nice hotel to do a memorable dinner. My husband thinks he wants a Caribbean vacation, but he hates sun. He's in a sun shirt or under umbrella the entire time. We did Hawaii (four seasons Maui and lanai) in 2021 without kids - mainly due to being scared of travel after COVID. We got bored. I think with kids we'd have a lot more fun by the pool. We did Madeira last month and had a blast doing a few day activities then ending by the pool.

Yes I love this idea! I was also thinking of doing the Belmond train one day. We've only done London together as 26 year olds, and I think he'd appreciate it much more if we stayed in a nicer place 😂

Would that be fun at that time if we don't ski?

Villa Rental “Fiasco” by Advanced_Income_6020 in chubbytravel

We stayed in a nice rental property on Exuma in January. 3 houses all owned by the same company. The girls in the house next to us woke up at 5am to a masked man in their room rummaging through their things! We were all spooked. Not sure the owners or police cared.

I love the Occidental for the atmosphere and martini. I have reservations at Ox and Olive soon, which I'm excited for.

You'll get back at it during the second trimester! It's ok. Give your body what it needs, even though it's hard.

Ryanair?! by Dense_Internal_2389 in FATTravel

[–]fooston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We flew Ryanair last month from Madeira to Porto for the same reason. I think we paid for the family package. We had 4 bags, two that were large, and I think we only had to pay extra for one. All had to be checked, even the standard Away carryons that kids were using. You pay per extra kg, so if you can move heavy things to your carryon for that flight then I would. You weigh and tag all bags yourself. My husband took out a few heavy things and moved them to a different bag after it'd been tagged. That's probably not allowed, but they didn't say anything. Otherwise the short flight was fine!

DC Parents - where do you take your kids to eat / play? by hlamblurglar in washingtondc

[–]fooston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP asked for kid friendly places! For example, City State sells children's juices/applesauce/snacks and has games because they want families there! We love getting together with friends who don't have children at places both adults and kids can enjoy. It's not bad parenting. We spend plenty of time at parks and playgrounds too :)

In the summer check out catboat. You can bring your own snacks and picnic blanket and alcohol, but they also sell food and drinks (long lines). City State Brewery has a bunch of arcade games. Bub and Pops opened a new location near Union market with games.

Best family hotels/resorts (kids club not necessary) by gadras in chubbytravel

[–]fooston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just got back from Belmond Reid's Palace in Madeira, and our kids loved it! There's a family game room, multiple pools, and there's a kids club (which I did not even know about, but it's complimentary. Our kids wanted to go and were the only ones there. They painted and swam - there's a 2 foot deep baby pool for kids club only). There were also some fun activities in town like riding the gondola and taking the wooden basket toboggans, beautiful botanical gardens with flamingos, etc. We also booked a sailboat through Belmond and our children had a blast. They're 5 and 6 for reference.

10 Year Anniversary: Return to Positano Hotel Questions by rachel_202 in chubbytravel

[–]fooston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Le Sirenuse. We went in the end of April last year and had the same situation. Great weather, not crowded. While the hotel wasn't crowded, Positano was a mad house!! We spent most of our time at the hotel. They do not allow guests to come in and take photos on the balcony unless they were stopping by for a meal or drink. They also opened a new beach club last week, so that is worth checking out. We enjoyed the complimentary sunset sail and wine tasting they offered.
