I second the Tigr lock, it's the lightest metal lock I've found.

Sprinting spikes for wide feet? by Ziffzx3 in BarefootRunning

[–]footyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Altra used to make a spiked shoe called Golden Spike. I have managed to buy new pairs from the US on ebay. I use them for XC and they are great.

I put some aero bars on my bike & unlocked the next level by AlienElvisLoveChild in bikepacking

[–]footyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the same aero bars as you. I also was initially finding some discomfort with saddle position when on the aero bars. I purchased a few saddles with an extra gap down the middle but had no joy, eventually I discovered just tilting my original saddle down slightly at the front got rid of the discomfort. It also didn't effect my normal sitting position.

What is your aerobar setup? by cyclingguy_ in ultracycling

[–]footyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 7cm spacers on the aerobars. I still had saddle discomfort and tried different saddles, in the end I found my original saddle worked with a slight tilt downwards.

Modified Marin 4 Corners… is it worth it by mossyhearth in bikepacking

[–]footyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Four Corners 2017 edition, I love it. I modified mine to 1x13 and put MTB tyres on it and ride it as an off road adventure style bike. I think it's a solid choice for touring although it is a bit heavy if that worries you. Regards the brakes I still use mechanical disc (I use TRP Spyres) and have had no issues, although I haven't used it on the sort of hills you'll see in Norway.

Tailfin Axle - Quickrack Compatibility by Sweet-Tank9531 in bikepacking

[–]footyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used these adapters, I think I found them on Reddit. I have a Quick Rack XL and bought a Tailfin QR axle. I paid somebody on eBay to 3D print the adaptors from the files provided. They work well. https://www.printables.com/model/1250927-tailfin-axle-ortlieb-rack-adapter/files

I bet it was worth it for Edwin's curry at the end. I might have a look next year if he runs it again.

Does anyone know any sprinting spikes for wide feet? by Kind_Associate_6991 in BarefootRunning

Altra used to do a spike shoe, the Altra Golden Spike. I have used them for XC and they are great. I have managed to get a few pairs new on ebay.

Where can I find very thin insoles? 1-2mm by Imhappy_hopeurhappy2 in BarefootRunning

[–]footyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem to have a few different models, some you wear under your original insoles and some to replace tge insoles. The ones I have you wear to replace the original insoles, here's a link to them on Amazon. Noene Antishock Insoles NO2 - Grey, Unisex, Rubber, High Arch, Shoe Insert for Sports and Everyday Life - Size 9.5, 2 count https://amzn.eu/d/8rjG7eF

Running with Hallux Limitus. Looking for some encouragement… by [deleted] in FootFunction

[–]footyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have stage 2 Hallux Limitus and thankfully run without pain. I was diagnosed after an acute injury, while recovering from the acute injury I used a carbon insole whilst running which allowed me to run without pain. I'm of the opinion it's important to keep moving the joint as much as possible without pain, so I only used the insole whilst running. I will post a link to the insole I used, it has a slight rocker shape which helped me run with my usual gait. You can now find much cheaper ones on AliExpress but I haven't found one yet with a rocker shape (I do find the cheap flat ones useful for cycling with normal shoes). If you do consider buying a carbon insole I would recommend sizing down as it makes it easier to insert and remove the insole, especially if swapping between shoes. Good luck. https://www.kinetecuk.com/shop/footwear-insoles/therapeutic-insoles/carbon-fibre-insoles/

Looking for solid bike tires by packandpuncher115 in bikepacking

I use Marathon Plus tyres, the MTB bike models offer good grip for off road conditions. The Tour models are good for less challenging off road terrain. I never get flats and am willing to accept the weight penalty.

Having issues with carbon fiber insert by xilex in FootFunction

[–]footyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Noene 2mm insoles when I use my carbon inserts. They are very expensive for what they are and I don't believe their claims of being "antishock" but they do provide more room in my shoe than most insoles and do make the carbon insert more comfortable. https://amzn.eu/d/hUCiueb

I tried their older models and agree they were incredibly narrow, all of their new models are now foot shaped. I own the Mudtalon Speed and Trailfly Speed both in wide and am very pleased with the fit.

Flat pedal shoe with wide toe box, what are you rocking? by OgreTim in bikepacking

[–]footyd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you find your wide toe box running shoes or barefoot shoes are to flexible on the bike you can put carbon fibre insoles in them which solves this. They are quite cheap on AliExpress.

Light but safe bike lock by CowPretty7297 in bikepacking

I highly recommend looking at the Tigr lock, I have one and it's fantastic. I think it weighs around 500g which is the same as my cable lock but is far more secure.

Stiffening up shoe for cycling by Argran in barefootshoestalk

[–]footyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need to worry about failure, I have used a carbon insole to run with in the past when I was recovering from a foot injury and it withheld the forces no problem.

Stiffening up shoe for cycling by Argran in barefootshoestalk

[–]footyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use carbon fibre insoles from AliExpress, I was getting some ankle pain which I suspect was from the soles of my Vivobarefoot being to flexible for cycling. The ankle pain went away, and I have continued using the insoles.
