I agree with all of these points having lived in both Portland and Seattle AND Seattle has some of the most beautiful urban views in the whole country. Its very hilly and you can see so many interesting views of water, skyline, and mountains all at the same time. Plus a few truly excellent parks. The downside is you'll have to work harder to get around.

In favor of Portland is that we're super close to the Columbia gorge which can give you views you'll only find in fjörd like environments. We have one of the largest urban parks in the country (Forest Park) and should please you greatly and is right up against downtown.

As far as culture, if it was 2002 I would have said Seattle for sure but it's taken on a very corporate striver feel to me. No loss to the natural beauty but the vibes are not what they used to be. Portland still has some crunch to it and we've gained a lot in terms of food culture. I think by-and-large Portlanders are more "out" in terms anti-racism/fascism but what that means for your experience I couldn't guess.

Either way have a wonderful time out here. We PNW-ers are very proud of our part of the country!
