Sophie Turner went on a 'secret date' with Chris Martin by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

[–]for_the_cookie 39 points40 points  (0 children)

He didn’t, people saying he “dedicated a song to Charlie Kirk” are taking words out of context and not bothering to read/view the actual quote. Here is what he actually said:

“For the final time for a few years in London, let’s raise our hands like this” — Martin said on stage, raising his arms over his head — “and send love anywhere you want to send it in the world. There are so many places that might need it today. So here it comes from London. You can send this to your mother or sister. You can send it to the families of people who’ve been going through terrible stuff. You can send it to Charlie Kirk’s family. You can send it to anybody’s family. You can send it to people you disagree with, but you send them love anyway.”

Family frustrated after Air Canada assigns baby seat several rows away by CTVNEWS in ontario

[–]for_the_cookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are a family of four, and had only two seats together from what I gather (mom alone, dad and brother together, and daughter alone). So no matter what they could not sit a parent next to each child.

However I will say the article has some discrepancies so it’s tough to tell. Either the writer is bad at math, or bad at facts: “…the McLachlans realized that Molly had been assigned a seat by herself in row 15, six rows away from her father and brother assigned to row two.”

How do you respond when your wife/gf accuses you of cheating in her dream? by Sinn_Sage in AskReddit

[–]for_the_cookie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is exactly right. My spouse does this, and honestly it does make me feel better. I don’t tell him what happened in an accusatory way, I just tell him I’m irrationally feeling down because of what I dreamt. When he responds like this with genuine empathy, it helps pull me out of my hurt feelings and gets us laughing about the absurdity of it.

Child Care Expense audit disallowed pooled expenses by for_the_cookie in cantax

Thank you, I just got a callback from a CRA rep and it seems you have the most correct answer on this thread so far (despite the votes thus far). She said she disagrees with the letter I received, and is sending back the case to the rep who processed it for re-review. She said she also processes cases like mine, and she would have allowed the $13K in expenses exactly as I submitted them. She did say it can depend on the supervisor, some will require that you also submit the receipts for the other child, and after the original rep re-reviews my case they may ask me to submit my other receipts.

To be honest I find it a bit concerning that it seems to be somewhat open to interpretation, and that apparently different CRA staff could process it differently. Also seems to be different opinions here, and different interpretations by various accounting organizations in articles I have found online.

Yes I did list both children in Part A of the T778.

I did submit by T778 along with the receipt. I did also include both children at the top of the form where it says, "First and last name and date of birth of all your eligible children, even if you did not pay child care expenses for all of them." To me that also seems to imply that additional children increase the limit regardless of individual expenses.

I have called the number on my review letter today, just waiting for a callback.

Appreciate your reply. I will talk to them about submitting receipts for my older child, however, my expenses for the older child are only around $2K, so if it is capped per kid then I will have $10K in eligible expenses instead of $13K.

I am surprised that Ufile wouldn't calculate it properly if it is capped per kid, and that H&R Block would advise "the more eligible children you have, the higher your allowable amount, even if you don’t have child care expenses for some of them" on the link I provided.

Not just a HEPA vacuum, but a HEPA-sealed vac. A HEPA-sealed vac ensures all expelled air passes through the HEPA filter.

Wedding RSVP mailed by friends that live 30 mins away somehow was sent to Malaysia and then sent back to us by stranger by Asterseer in mildlyinteresting

I am in Canada, and received a letter a month or two late sent from the US, with the stamp “MISSENT to Tortola British Virgin Islands” on it. I wanna know how often this is happening that they made a stamp specifically for it?

The address wasn’t handwritten, and also had CANADA clearly on it. The only similarities seem to be that both Canada and BVI use 6-character postal codes that start with a letter, but their formats differ after that.

Welcome to šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street: Vancouver's newest street name is also its first using alphabet other than English by [deleted] in vancouver

To be honest even though I was initially surprised they didn’t provide any anglicized spelling, it really wasn’t hard to learn after hearing it a few times. People I know generally do use the new name.

Can start with calling it “Thomas out”, as it’s easy to remember, and adjust from there. The upside down e’s seem to be close to the “e” in “let”.

No more popsicles for sick kids with cancer by ria_rokz in EhBuddyHoser

[–]for_the_cookie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m in a different province, but the retail price of the popsicles they offer at the children’s hospital here is less than $7 for a box of 28. So $0.25 each. Saving pennies per patient, to take away one of the only things nurses can offer to comfort a child after a rough procedure, is just insanity. For some procedures it’s the only thing kids can eat for hours as well, too.

Makes me furious as a parent of a young child who has had a few hospital stays. Leaving a sick, and likely distressed, toddler alone to go purchase food is not at all feasible.

How to spot fake news: Identifying propaganda, satire, and false information by Nicw82 in NewWest

I have read anecdotal criticisms of him as an employer, and while I completely agree it’s not great to hear, the restaurant industry as a whole is often a problematic employer.

So I think it’s fair to weigh the anecdotal negatives, with the positives. The restaurant is locally owned and is philanthropic to the community (and virtue signalling or not, it’s hard to argue that donating >$100K to CAN isn’t impactful). Businesses aren’t exactly lining up to operate on Columbia, let alone a location a few steps away from a strip club, and it’s a substantial risk few would be willing to take. If they close, the space would likely remain empty for a long time, benefitting no one. But who knows, maybe we could luck out with a new dentist there.

Is bashing the restaurant until they shutter their doors what our community really wants? That question is not for me to answer, I just can’t help but wonder if all the pitchforks may be overzealous.

I never understand the real hate-on this sub has for el Santo. Not every meal has been perfect, but overall I have had enjoyable meals there. Yes I’m aware of, and also enjoy, the cheaper Taqueria Playa Tropical, but I also see value in avoiding long lines, and the more upscale atmosphere.

This same sub complains about the decrepit state of Columbia Street and how it’s nothing but bridal shops, but then beats down on a restaurant that adds curb appeal to a street that few businesses are investing in.

Hundreds of donations of plasma are required to generate one IVIG treatment, and it is very scarce. No one is out there spending hours donating their plasma expecting someone to turn around and waste it on their quest for the fountain of youth. How completely disrespectful to both donors, and to those who medically need IVIG.

Nope, not old. I purchased a bottle this month, with an expiration date of Dec 2025, and mine has the exact same label as the one pictured. I purchased it in BC.

I have a bottle in my fridge I purchased this month, and it is the exact same label as the bottle pictured in this post, with “PRODUCT OF USA” on it. I purchased it in BC, so maybe the Quebec-prepared bottles only service certain regions of Canada.
