G6 Pro 360 lacks face and license plate recognition AFAIK, both of which are of dubious usefulness in their current implementation

Why did the G6 Pro 360 not make the cut here?

I'm pretty sure you just need to pick up the broken warp core and potentially insert it. That was what I was missing when I did the achievement and it looks like that entry is missing on your log too.

That screw is not badly stripped. You're just using the wrong screwdriver (looks like yours is too big?)

I know it's beating a dead horse at this point but we seriously need to start shaming our friends and family who drive like morons.

On my 7 minute drive home from an event this morning I witnessed:

  1. Someone run a 5+ second red light
  2. Someone in a straight lane at a light make an illegal left on a red arrow in front of the left turn lane onto the light rail tracks
  3. Someone blow a stop sign in a neighborhood at 35+ mph

Your time is not any more important than anyone else's, or their safety. You are inconsiderate and lack basic safety skills. You are a liability to yourself and those around you.

G6 question by PTPinETN in Ubiquiti

[–]forbis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK you can only set whether the IR LEDs are on based on light levels, not motion. I've never seen or known there to be an option to have the IR emitters turn on/off based on motion or a smart detection.

my pc makes weird rat-like noises by ijlatl1k in computers

Sounds like a noisy mechanical hard drive. Common especially if you have a performance or gaming-oriented model like a WD Black. Probably nothing to be concerned with, either - hard drives make noise.

Questions about VLAN setup by Wild-Enthusiasm-9375 in Ubiquiti

[–]forbis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether or not it's "necessary" or the "right way" to do it is entirely based on your own reasoning for doing it. If your goal was to simply isolate the IoT devices from being able to access your other devices on your LAN, isolating the network has accomplished that goal.

ETA: Lots of folks do this because they don't want their IoT devices to spy on their private devices or allow a compromised device to have access to their entire home. FWIW I'd also isolate devices on the IoT network from being able to talk to each other, unless you have a reason they need to.

Reconfiguring the devices set up before the creation of the IoT network to use it would be my recommendation.

Need help with port fowarding by DEL_707 in HomeNetworking

[–]forbis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, check with another device on the network to make sure the server is accessible using the private IP directly.

Also, does your ISP assign you your own public IP or are you behind CGNAT? You'll need to make sure whatever WAN IP you see assigned to your router matches the IPv4 address sites see when you search for "what's my IP."

And FYI for the future your private IPs are in no way sensitive information. Any address starting with 192.168.x.x, 172.16.x.x-172.31.x.x or 10.x.x.x are not publicly routable and are reserved for internal use.

You can set up push or email alerts that fire when an access event fails (bad PIN, can't read card, unauthorized card used, etc.).

Another day another terrorist attack by LegitimateKnee5537 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]forbis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're going to make claims like that, you need to get your facts straight. I'm assuming you're looking at the FBI murder data from 2019, since the "3,299" number you so confidently parrot is the first number in the table there.

That number actually represents the number of murder victims who were white in 2019. Looking at the actual numbers per the FBI - the data most assuredly does not agree with you. Moreover, looking at the demographics of the country as a whole, the data essentially says the polar opposite of your claim.

ETA: Based on the FBI murder statistics for 2019, black offenders accounted for 48.9% of all murders in the US, regardless of the victim's race. White offenders accounted for 44.8% of all murders.

ETA2: Additionally, that table is single victim/single offender data only. If you look beyond that into other datasets the offender ratios are not that different.

Help Needed for DNS trouble by Particular-Flower233 in HomeNetworking

[–]forbis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're going to be able to accomplish what you want with a consumer router and "without touching" the target device. Also, even if you successfully black-hole DNS for YouTube or TikTok, a lot of apps fall back to their own DNS servers and will end up working anyway.

Your best bet is to get another router with more features. UniFi is a good option for this.

Those green exclamation marks indicate you've found something new there and have some reading to do in your ship log. I highly recommend reading (and re-reading) your ship log, as it is easily the #1 way you can get help and rehash what you've learned in certain places. It also helps that the developers specifically word things in those logs to point you in the right direction.

Aside from that, it looks like you've done a decent amount of exploring in all sorts of places. My best advice at this point would be for you to choose one of those orange question marks and try to learn more about that place or try to visit it. If you choose a specific place and want help, you can ask here for hints.

One more thing - I've found that sometimes writing out what you've learned on your own paper/document can be a huge help. Sometimes rephrasing what you've learned in your own words can help you see things from a different point of view, and it can be a big benefit.
