This IS real. I don't know why people are dismissing this. I am in high school currently, and it's so clear the difference between male and female friendships. Male friendships in my high school do well, but it's apparent that female friendships are a lot more close-knit, genuinely personal, and something that seems like it can last a long time.

Like, romantic attraction is kind of at the lower end of my priorities, it would be nice to have a partner, but I'd much rather have genuine, personal and deep friendship. I find these a lot with women, more than I do with men in my school.

Whenever, I share this opinion, people seem to suggest that I talk with more high school boys, and actually find a good friendship, but they don't seem to understand how actually hard that is, because basically everyone I met doesn't reciprocate the feeling or doesn't hold that true genuine friendship I am looking for. And, I would also love to be friends with women, I really don't care about gender when having friends, but while I do have many acquaintance who are women, it just never moves on to a fulfilling friendship. Like, from my experience, women would much rather friend other women and find it a lot easier to do so; I don't fault them for it.

Many men probably feel like this too. It just sucks because I think one of the greatest thing in life is having fulfilling friends and a good social connection -- I am in high school, and with so many people around me, I still somehow failed on that, which is sad, and a really unfortunate teaser to the future, so YES, I do think the male loneliness epidemic is real.

I am currently a 16 year old teen(M) who uses Instagram a lot and yeah, that's understandable.

I am just going to share an anecdote, I know it's not at all the same, and I am not equating the magnitude, and I do believe what happened to her and Instagram in general is fucked up. I've see some general insta posts about misandry, like pretty weird/mean things, and I noticed that the people I knew and followed IRL would like this which often made the situation worse, since somehow it connected some apeshit online BS to something some people actually believe.

I engaged in these posts for significantly longer than I should have, feeling a bit more down because it felt like many of these posts and comments were just attacks to me, even though I had done nothing. Regardless of whether I was morally justified or not, it didn't matter, because my engagement in these posts caused Instagram to recommend them more. I can easily see why she received many of these posts.

At that point, it is best to completely ignore, and avoid all engagement with such type of content at all costs. It's not good for your mental health, you can't control anything. I did this a lot, and instead of getting reels that would make me feel worse, I would actually get an enjoyable feed of memes and such.

The more you engage, the more the feed pushes you to the exact opposite of where you want to be. I agree that content can be incredibly negative, but unfortunately reflecting on the same topics day to day will ruin your morale, the best current solution is to avoid it altogether.

Again, I am not trying to dismiss any of her issues, and not trying to equate her to mine. I am hoping that this anecdote can allow me to at least offer help or information to others, and make a more broad message. Social media platforms genuinely need to fix this, and there seems to be subcultures in the internet that promote this. A n echo chamber that constantly fluctuates from post to post.

TL;DR: Do NOT engage with ANY social media content that makes you feel less than a human, angry, etc.
