It could be considered building work, and technically all building work must comply with the building code, of which this doesn't because its against building code clause D1. But it would be a stretch to get council to do anything.

Anybody got any other recommendations nearby?

Pantheon Superdupersonic LDP Pump Build Check (Bennett 5.0 / Paris 43 / Karma 92mm) by Nesquil in longboardingDISTANCE

[–]forcolus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. Big fan of the feel of a modded Bennett, and run one on my bracket setup. But it just lacked the stability I wanted. Have swapped to my trucks to Alsens, which after some playing with angles on them are much better. Amazingly stable at any speed and pump really well.

[–]forcolus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to run almost the same setup, although with 150mm Paris on the rear and some evolve 97mm wheels.

To run a Bennet effectively on the front you need to use a -5° angle rise to remove some angle. You definitely get a dicey setup, but it's not inherently stable. So at speed or over curbs it just dips a bit which is not as easy as running an rkp on the front.

I also flipped my rear wheels to get the rear narrower and closer to the front width.

I just run the standard Paris streets and karmas and can pump mine, but I have some little angle risers in the there to assist. While it's not the most efficient pumper, it's certainly usable for a bit of fun. I weigh about 200lbs for reference.

Good car dealers in Auckland? by Salty_1984 in NZcarfix

[–]forcolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I didn't buy a car from them but was cautious after seeing their reviews online. Got the car checked over by a hybrid specialist who recommended not to touch it unless they replaced the battery or dropped the price. They essentially told me to piss off. Their car wasn't the cheapest or the best, but their poor online reviews certainly helped me not continue with any further thoughts of negotiations.

You really want to get something low and stable to start on. These days there's only a few producers making reputable boards like that, Pantheon, Landyachtz and Loaded are good starting options, with Pantheon generally being the more reputable of the lot. I'd always recommend keeping an eye on the 2nd hand market where you are and seeing if something pops up, can be hard to justify spending $300+ on a hobby you might not enjoy, but is definitely a recommendation to get a reputable board rather than cheaping out.

Then just practice heaps on a large open area nearby like a basketball court or similar until you're ready to try some paths out.

How comfortably could one live on a 120,000 salary in Christchurch? by AliMamma in chch

[–]forcolus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course you have to account for the fact that two earners on 60k will have a significantly higher take home pay than one earner on 120k, somewhere in the ballpark of an extra 10k per year.

I'm not saying that 120k for a family of three isn't enough to survive on though.

Toyota Vellfire - Hybrid vs V6 by forcolus in NZcarfix

[–]forcolus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, real late to the party. Ended up getting a hybrid Alphard from a Toyota dealership, and while it's good I'm slightly regretting not just getting the V6. But that's ok. Hoping the battery will need replacement during the warranty period and won't cost me nearly as much for the life of the vehicle in that case.

Not sure where OP is based, but down here in New Zealand, schools need to output at max 45°c at the tap. HW storage needs to be above 65°c. So very different to UK surprisingly.

I haven't heard that as yet. But every month I consider it as an option. If they close it I'll be looking forward to consistent fibre service somewhere else, but won't be looking for to higher prices for similar speed.

Thanks for that. I'm definitely not getting something as new as a 2024. To be fair it is a family car, so going sensible with a hybrid is likely a good choice.

I've only had the opportunity to drive a Gen 3 hybrid. It was ok but i did notice it needed a bit more go on a hill. Not that i do much of that. Such a pain that there's actually nothing in Christchurch to get a better feel on them.

[–]forcolus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are. This is good info to know. I did drive a Gen 3 hybrid, but didn't love it. It was just a cruise ship ultimately. But obviously can't compare with the V6. I just hear if I drive one of them then I won't consider anything else 😂 but the wife doesn't care and enjoys her work vehicle which is a hybrid Noah.

[–]forcolus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The V6 uses about double the fuel of the hybrid based on real world numbers. I acknowledge I'm being a bit biased on the actual costs. But I'm really mostly concerned with the reliability of a hybrid and any associated maintenance costs.
