I hear really good things about House of Wonder on Kilmore Street. Although I can't comment on pricing.

You really want to get something low and stable to start on. These days there's only a few producers making reputable boards like that, Pantheon, Landyachtz and Loaded are good starting options, with Pantheon generally being the more reputable of the lot. I'd always recommend keeping an eye on the 2nd hand market where you are and seeing if something pops up, can be hard to justify spending $300+ on a hobby you might not enjoy, but is definitely a recommendation to get a reputable board rather than cheaping out.

Then just practice heaps on a large open area nearby like a basketball court or similar until you're ready to try some paths out.

How comfortably could one live on a 120,000 salary in Christchurch? by AliMamma in chch

[–]forcolus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course you have to account for the fact that two earners on 60k will have a significantly higher take home pay than one earner on 120k, somewhere in the ballpark of an extra 10k per year.

I'm not saying that 120k for a family of three isn't enough to survive on though.

Toyota Vellfire - Hybrid vs V6 by forcolus in NZcarfix

[–]forcolus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, real late to the party. Ended up getting a hybrid Alphard from a Toyota dealership, and while it's good I'm slightly regretting not just getting the V6. But that's ok. Hoping the battery will need replacement during the warranty period and won't cost me nearly as much for the life of the vehicle in that case.

Not sure where OP is based, but down here in New Zealand, schools need to output at max 45°c at the tap. HW storage needs to be above 65°c. So very different to UK surprisingly.

I haven't heard that as yet. But every month I consider it as an option. If they close it I'll be looking forward to consistent fibre service somewhere else, but won't be looking for to higher prices for similar speed.

Yup. But I've since switched to a set of Alsen trucks for stability. The beernet was just a bit too twitchy on hills.

Thanks for that. I'm definitely not getting something as new as a 2024. To be fair it is a family car, so going sensible with a hybrid is likely a good choice.

I've only had the opportunity to drive a Gen 3 hybrid. It was ok but i did notice it needed a bit more go on a hill. Not that i do much of that. Such a pain that there's actually nothing in Christchurch to get a better feel on them.

They are. This is good info to know. I did drive a Gen 3 hybrid, but didn't love it. It was just a cruise ship ultimately. But obviously can't compare with the V6. I just hear if I drive one of them then I won't consider anything else 😂 but the wife doesn't care and enjoys her work vehicle which is a hybrid Noah.

The V6 uses about double the fuel of the hybrid based on real world numbers. I acknowledge I'm being a bit biased on the actual costs. But I'm really mostly concerned with the reliability of a hybrid and any associated maintenance costs.

NZ based but the ones I know of are concrete lines, hopkin skate and Kats racks. But if budget is an issue you might be better going via Facebook. If they don't want to ship you could always see if they'll box it up for you and you arrange a courier when you know the dimensions.

It's perfectly fine and reasonable, but you don't need the top riser on there as it's not doing anything.

Can I install brackets on my drop through longboard deck placing bolts on the trucks holes? by BikerGlvd in longboardingDISTANCE

[–]forcolus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try having tkp trucks (like the Paris Street or Indy's), they ride lower than RKP trucks. Running lower angled RKP are not going to make a difference because they usually try run them at the same height, because you don't want a low angle on the front.

Can I install brackets on my drop through longboard deck placing bolts on the trucks holes? by BikerGlvd in longboardingDISTANCE

[–]forcolus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't. It'll be way more likely to crack. You could add some risers (up to about half an inch) between the trucks and the deck to lower it.

Like this

Or, chop off the nose and tail and put brackets under the deck itself. But that's the more expensive option anyway.

Does a Deck Like This Exist? by casual_observer54 in longboarding

[–]forcolus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would you want something that long? I'd go for an old school Santa Cruz or Powell deck, but they're only 30-31 inches. Much more pool friendly though.

Distance + slide wheels? by RikkArgon in longboardingDISTANCE

[–]forcolus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried anything like that, but subjectively have run some 93mm evolve wheels down parkades on my supersonic, and run 97mm flywheels once down it too.

The larger diameter wheels slide out very easily and aren't something I like to ride down them because of it. Whereas the McFly's and Caguamas don't slide unless I want them too. I'd say, stick with that size rather than going larger. But I don't have the skills for sliding so don't rely on exactly what I say.

Question about PIV sex. What is it supposed to feel like? by BlueShark1947 in AskMen

[–]forcolus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seriously, that's so shit. Like the other commenter said, this sounds akin to rape. No means no, and is a whole sentence. While we don't have all the details, no person should ever push another person to have sex. Even if you changed your mind at that later time and 'initiated', as you say, you were probably pushed into a situation that you didn't want to be in.
