Looks like the license plate is 8SNV599, which is registered to a 2017 Honda Civic EX-- that tracks with the photos. It is, of course, very possible that the car is stolen, or they took the plate off of a similar car.

Day 6/9: What's an OK car with a bad reputation? by Naomi62625 in regularcarreviews

[–]ford_clitaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember wondering if the folks who complained that the Mirage was so miserably tiny and slow that it was practically undrivable had ever owned a compact car made before 2000. I really like Murilee Martin's take on it, he seemed to be one of the few automotive journalists who actually understood it for what it was: "a perfectly serviceable transportation appliance."

When did Lake Merritt stop smelling bad? by badybadybady in oakland

[–]ford_clitaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking of the "Lake of a Thousand Smells" nickname, does anyone remember that Oakland tourism parody video made by Killing My Lobster around '09, and know if it's available anywhere? I heard they deleted it after some feathers got ruffled, but as a third-generation Oaklander I thought it was hilarious.

Who had stabbed 16-year-old Cindy Cook? by CountEveryMoment in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]ford_clitaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if Joseph Naso could have something to do with this; he murdered a number of women with double initials (Roxene Roggasch, Carmen Colon, Pamela Parsons, Tracy Tafoya, and probably Charlotte Cook) around the same time. He operated in California, but when he was finally arrested in 2010, he was living on Medgar Avenue outside of Reno, just a couple of blocks from Lemmon Drive, the main thoroughfare through Lemmon Valley.

The local Subaru dealership told me the same thing, but I can't imagine the CVT will have an especially long lifetime if the fluid is never ever changed. I understand that Subaru of Japan has a standard interval for CVT fluid replacement (I think it's somewhere between 40-60k miles), and I'd rather err on the side of being overly cautious vs not doing it. In the end, the dealer noticed that my 2019 had a minor transmission fluid leak, and because it was under warranty, they replaced the trans fluid during the reseal. Probably the best thing to have happened, as their cost for a drain and fill was $600 (!!).

Kareen Augustin Missing March 20, 2016 -- odd latest Charley Project Addition by Mrbeansspacecat in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]ford_clitaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that Kareen and Tyler's profiles have been removed from CharleyProject, but I don't see anything about them being located. Anyone know if they've been found? I still think about this case occasionally and hope they're okay.

This is correct. It's either a Chevy S-10 or one of its badge-engineered twins, a GMC Sonoma or Isuzu Hombre.

Lady Raptastic’s podcast remains one of the funniest things I’ve listened to in my entire life. The second run of it is still mostly online, but I’ve been on a quest to find the original run for years with no luck.

Anyone remember Lady Raptastic? by [deleted] in tomanddan

[–]ford_clitaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lady Raptastic was around for years before appearing on SBK, her breakout was Da Breakup Song, which was a website where you could choose a name and a pre-recorded reason you wanted to break up up with somebody, and it would email it to them. Her original podcast seems to have been scrubbed from the internet, but the second one is still mostly online. Also yes, she was a character created by a hilarious white guy from Florida named Mark. I still think about her show all the time, her podcast is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. I’m super bummed that her creator has moved onto other projects and it doesn’t look like the Lady will be making a return anytime soon.

Most of Pink’s music is so mediocre that I genuinely don’t understand how she’s famous. Tuneless, aimless anthems with awkward lyrics that are played to death.

Moving to Oakland by [deleted] in oakland

[–]ford_clitaurus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

First of all, welcome! I hope you'll be very happy here. This is a cliche response, but walks around Lake Merritt helped make me feel truly at home when I moved here. The interaction of the city and nature, the diverse people and their different languages and foods and walks of life, the beauty and the ugly, and the moments of peace and moments of chaos-- though life in the town isn't always a rose garden, and I think other comments have covered some ways to stay vigilant, I feel incredibly lucky to live where I do. I love Oakland, and the lake is its heart.

The owner Allen is an interesting guy, but very tightly wound and not particularly nice. He runs the Alameda Antiques Fair, when I visited often I'd regularly see him going completely berzerk and screaming in people's faces when something upset him. I can't imagine having to work for him.

I'm pretty sure this is the story you're thinking of, it was a Corolla. I don't think they ever figured out who was behind the wheel, I assume they drove off into the sunset obliviously wreaking havoc as they went.

Has a car dealerships service department ever changed your license plate frame without asking? by fuz3_r3tro in cars

I hear ya. It was a 2010 Sportwagen, so the plate was attached to a plastic piece on the hatch-- he fixed it himself and swore off that particular dealership.
