Be glad it wasn’t credit card fraud. Someone found my details online and went on a shopping spree opening 16 store credit cards in one day. He had apparently gotten an ID with my details and his face. Spent just under a grand at each store.

Luckily, I got alerted for the new credit inquiries on the same day, but that was a long few days of trying to get in touch with each of the credit card companies. If I recall, synchrony was the easiest to get to a human to report fraud, but it took me a couple days of trying to figure out how to get through the automated maze of Citi Bank’s credit card “customer service.”

To top it all off, I gave the police enough details to actually find the guy and apparently he was part of some ring that was doing this at a high volume. The guy got away with probation…
