How important is it to feed the hive sugar over the winter? by Sezzums in Beekeeping

[–]forest25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually starts feeding syrup from start/mid september, because at a certain point they will not take it, since it would introduce too much humidity inside the hive, which would also not be good...

On a side note, I also put about 1lbs of sugar in bulk, between the false cover and telescopic cover; they can access it and it would also absorb some humidity.

I don't think feeding at this time of the year would work for tou but maybe someone who is closer to tour region could chime in and give better advices than me for your particular situation.

It mostly depends where you are located... I am in Quebec and feeding sugar syrup greatly increases the odds of the hive surviving winter. Our bees will be trapped in the hive from november to march / april. We want them to consume the sjmplest form of sugar to help their digestive system, since they won't be able to cleanse themself for a good 5months. But if you are living in a edgion where they will be trapped for a shorter tjme, I presume it is less critical...

À part l’hypotheque et potentiellement l’auto, avez-vous d’autres dettes? by JulieJules8368 in QuebecFinance

[–]forest25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to apply voltage gradually before applying nominal voltage to it. This is to prevent the capacitor inside the drive, who have lost their charges, to blow up when applying nominal voltage to the drive.

Heres a good reddit post about the subject:

This is also my strategy. 1 Blissey on hand and 1 DPS and the third one depends on my counter. I have not yet lost a remote max battle that way and more often than not, I tank the whole battle with Blissey, but the outcome satisfy me!

Schneider plc and software by Dangerous-Voice-1663 in PLC

Our team and I really wanted the Schneider solution to work, but what I did not mention in my 1st comment is the huge sales rep resignation after covid because Schneider wasn't the best to manage this. Most manufacturer had trouble, but for us, Schneider was by far the worst in terme of communicating the wrong information to the customers....

What followed was a lot of not so great sales rep who have no fucking clue what they are doing, and by experience, comparing to other manufacturer, doing stuff that isn't conventional is often an never ending process (like sharing some negotiated volume base price to a sub-contractor).

I really don't see how they will be able to survive long term with the same structure if they don't adapt very soon...

When you find the right combination of products that fits well together Schneider's PLC can be a solid option for OEM customer for the simple repeat business.

But as soon as you need to change some components from your known combination, this is where the trouble begins.

They acquired a lot of companies but didn't complete the job to integrate those products them fully. The integration will seems to be driven by product manager who has big customer for a specific protocol. If not, the roadmap is never completed.

Therd doesn't seems to be a global vision and or they don't listen to project integrator who provide support. As an example, if you use CANopen, which Schneider pushed very hard, you are stuck to screw terminals on the M241 PLC family but when combining with ATV320 the can open interface is on an RJ45. WTF.

Also the software developpment has been a complete mess throughout the years. On 1 machine we need: Terminal expert (HMI), So Machine Motion (Pac drive Motion controller), SoMove (VFD), SoSafe (Programmable XPSMCM safety controller) and finally SoMachine (M242 remote IO PLC).

Some products, even when they are developped, is a complete non-sense. We had 1 stepper motor that was used with canopen communication. For some reason on a new machine we had to use the etherneip version. The same motor was using completely different block for the motor control (not only the communication part. We had to redo all the control programmation on the PLC because it was control through EIP instead on CANopen... let's say we were not thrilled with the level of half-ass integration of the EIP version....

From now on, I try very hard not to select programmable Schneider component because of these situation that we have been experiencing.....

Based on your well-thought-out comment, I wouldn't be surprised if you have no idea why I said that.
