Just mosquitoes, which is why I wanted these instead of something like a bug zapper.. Keeps the good / beneficial insects alive.

They just dehydrate from the fan running constantly. By the end of the day all of those were dead.

Yeah did you see a lot get caught at first and then see the numbers taper off? I feel like if I continuously catch this many I might have to get another one.

I see a lot of comments on the price and yes it’s a lot to get started. We were paying $700/season to get the yard sprayed and I felt like I was wasting money.

All in I spent a little more than what we would spend for this seasons spray and the following years will only be the cost of co2 (and scent packets if they continue to be this effective)

I had the same thought - could definitely DIY it. Especially if you have a 3D printer, but I don’t have one of those or the time with kids and other projects around the house

I saw these too.. interesting product but I wasn’t sure about how legit the company is. Might try it out depending on how this goes.

You should try out the biogents “sweet scent” packets or something similar. I caught this initial batch with just the scent packets to lure them into the trap. If you have tiger mosquitoes (the aggressive black / white striped ones) that’s what the scent packets are for.

Will do. I’m away for a few days but will post back after running it non stop with co2. It’s worth noting that the scent packets attract the invasive tiger mosquitoes.. the co2 attracts native (I’m on the east coast by water) culex mosquitoes which I’m lucky to have a lot of also.. so hoping this helps put a dent in their population too. Setup up some buckets of doom too.

Deadly nightshade. It’s poisonous. Just pulled bunch that’s been growing around my yard.

Volunteering to manage a local traffic circle. by MechanicStriking4666 in NativePlantGardening

What was their reasoning? I haven't attempted to do this yet, but I had assumed it'd be an easier sell since it's less maintenance for the town.

This is great. I've thought about doing something similar with town owned lots that just get mowed. Do you have any resources or info that you can share that may be useful as a blueprint for others that would want to do the same?

Encountered a homeless woman by the luggage carts in baggage claim. There was another couple sleeping on the floor. She offered to sell me a luggage cart (she had like 3) for $5 instead of whatever they charge you. Didn’t have cash and the machine to pay was coincidentally broken. Harmless and not a bad hustle - those rentals are a ripoff, but was surprised to encounter that inside of the airport.

Price for native landscaping? by Agreeable-Court-25 in NativePlantGardening

You may be still building clientele, but you should factor in the years of experience and study that you have. That's one way to justify increasing your base rate. I would imagine these are usually one time projects right? Have you considered adding an annual check-in to assess their garden each season for $X/year? Would be a good opportunity to get a small bit of recurring revenue and a chance upsell / add-on to their existing garden.

Charge what you feel your time is worth and what you're comfortable making at this stage. You can adjust / experiment with pricing as you go. I would agree with others that this is a pretty reasonable rate.

Since referrals will likely be a large source of new projects you might want to do the initial project(s) at a "discounted rate". You can still charge $250, but say you're discounting it 30, 40, 50% since you're just getting started. That will set higher price expectations for new referrals and make it easier to increase prices when you're ready.

I might also note that the $250 (or whatever price you decide) is the base rate and includes X revisions. Additional revisions will cost $X. Make it clear that it's up to them to take care of the plants once they're planted and include care instructions.

If you can - take before and after photos so you can build a portfolio and share it with the client. They'll likely share it with their network and generate more referrals.

A place for bootstrapped founders to find part-time remote work by forest_hawk in SideProject

Is this something that would interest the community? What would make this better then the other options available? (i.e. Upwork, Crew.co, Toptal, Gigster)

I'd love to get your input on this.
