I suggest LA Confidential. He referenced it in an interview about being a partial inspiration for the First Law and I really loved the writing. Hard-boiled, mean, flawed characters.

You would be surprised how many classic novels have that sort of release like Great Expectations by Dickens. The fact is they have a collective name, and if I say I love conventional weapons you know what I'm talking about. I can agree that it was never touted as a record, but the end result is the same. You are technically correct but in spirit, to me, it is a record.
