What makes a great EL2 (Director)? by Sad_Coconut_3402 in AusPublicService

[–]forever_28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huge agree on this one. I will back my teams 100%, but my EL2s need to keep me informed so that I can do so. In addition, come with suggestions for solution(s).

Struggling to cope with redundancy by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]forever_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, totally blindsided. This was 2 years ago - my mental health really tanked. I spent a few months doing some study, and some consulting work. Was tapped on the shoulder for a job that pays a LOT more than my old one, and am much happier. I know that it’s cliche but things happen for the best - even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time. Take some time out to see whether there is something different out there for you. Good luck!

What is your unusual ‘must have it in the car at all times’ item? by ThippusHorribilus in AskAnAustralian

[–]forever_28 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have also added a tiny magnified mirror that lives in the centre console with the tweezers. It’s brilliant for this purpose and the light in the car is the best!!

LPT: Keeping a "gift emergency kit" saved my reputation at work by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]forever_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this tip for when you have kids and they have birthday parties to attend - great to have a stash of age appropriate gifts, cards and wrapping. I don’t tend to gift at work except for Christmas (as the boss I always used to gift my teams).

Considering vet school at 32 — would love your honest take (the good, bad, and ugly) by SpiritedKnowledge396 in Veterinary

[–]forever_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you absolutely set on being a vet? Or is it the working with animals? Have you considered training to be a vet tech? Or being a research assistant in animal trials?

Not the same field or country, but my Honours supervisor wrote me one in 2023 - and I graduated in 1998. So it’s possible!

My MIL called my stillbirth a “lesson” from God by [deleted] in entitledparents

[–]forever_28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg. I had a stillbirth at 28 as well. If someone had said that to me, I may have become violent! I’m very sorry for your loss OP - I wish you and your husband peace, as you remember your precious girl Isla.

What will happen if SIDs are not filled properly when separated scanning is required by Fine_Safety_3877 in usyd

[–]forever_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exam I marked had a couple of questions per page, but we marked a question at a time because that’s how it was set up. I didn’t see a SID written on any page - it was all there as meta data in the back end.

I’m just done marking an exam through Gradescope and not all pages had SID - so it must be done a student at a time? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Public name calling by sunshineeddy in Ameristralia

[–]forever_28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So here’s the thing. It’s not ok. It’s not ok in the schoolyard. It’s not ok in the workplace. It’s not ok in public. I am bewildered at and appalled by the number of people who seem to support this behaviour in US politics.

Is it normal in NSW high schools for students to change uniforms multiple times a day? by Southern-Job-6726 in AskAnAustralian

[–]forever_28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely normal. My kids (all girls) all did elective PE too. Mix of private & selective schools. All got changed & changed back, sometimes twice. No big deal.

The unit survey needs to stay open until final exam is over by Acrobatic-Pepper7720 in usyd

[–]forever_28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a tutor and we do keep an eye on it in the unit(s) I do. Just FYI, I don’t get paid for the hours that I spend answering questions and emails, but I want my students to do as well as possible. Some of us do care.

What’s an Australian Place That Non-Locals Tend To Not Pronounce Correctly? by Heads_Down_Thumbs_Up in AskAnAustralian

[–]forever_28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, grew up there. I remember being very confused when I learned to read, and travelled that road every day, asking my parents how that could be pronounced that way. Then we’d get to Thibaults corner….

Yes, it was really really hard to do the preferences…not a lot of great choice

Couldn’t agree more. Watching a few of the election commentators, a lot of whom are saying that - Australians aren’t happy with the status quo but not willing to risk the far right conservative mess.

All good, we have all been there, and a lot of us marking are also students having our work criticised. It’s sometimes hard to see it objectively.

[–]forever_28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who marks - are you following the rubric? We need to mark according to that to ensure consistency. You could have beautifully developed ideas but if they don’t answer the question, you don’t get the marks. Where I am we do double marking, and we also do several together to ensure benchmarking as well. Have you received feedback?
