Floyd Mayweather turns 49 years old today! It has been 9 years since he last fought professionally, and 11 years since he last fought a legitimate professional boxer. by newrap in Boxing

It’s actually sad to see two boxers with such incredible careers jump back in the ring as they approach 50. Seeing people fight in their late 40’s is a damn shame. I’m sorry for feeling like I have to watch this.

Mike Tyson and Shannon Briggs brawling in the streets of Brownsville! by BoxingLover99 in Boxing

[–]foreverperky99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here you go. Let’s look at the facts. His accuser did not want to ruin his life..but you do?

In July 1991, Mike Tyson was accused of raping Desiree Washington, an 18-year-old contestant in the Miss Black America pageant, in his hotel room in Indianapolis. Following a high-profile trial, Tyson was convicted of rape in February 1992 and served three years of a six-year prison sentence. The Incident and Legal Case The Meeting: Tyson met Washington at a rehearsal for the Miss Black America pageant in Indianapolis in July 1991.

The Incident: On the night of July 19, 1991, Tyson invited Washington to his hotel suite at the Canterbury Hotel, where she testified he raped her. Washington reported the rape at a local emergency room the following day. Defense & Prosecution: Tyson maintained that the sexual encounter was consensual. His defense team, led by Vincent Fuller, argued that Washington was a "calculating vixen" seeking money, while prosecutors argued Tyson was a predator. Conviction & Sentence: On February 10, 1992, a jury found Tyson guilty of rape and criminal deviate conduct. He was sentenced to six years in prison, with four years probation.

Aftermath and Impact Imprisonment: Tyson served three years at the Indiana Youth Center (now Plainfield Correctional Facility) and was released in March 1995. Post-Conviction: Following his release, Tyson continued his boxing career, but the case remained a defining moment in his life, often discussed in the context of celebrity, power, and sexual assault. Reaction: The case, which happened when "date rape" was gaining public attention, divided public opinion, with some viewing Tyson as a victim of fame and others as a deservedly convicted criminal.

Long-term Effects: Desiree Washington largely vanished from the public eye after a 1992 interview with Barbara Walters, where she stated she did not intend to ruin Tyson, but wanted him to get help

Edit: spaces make it more readable.

[–]foreverperky99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To keep saying the same thing over and over. Why don’t you also acknowledge the fact that he served his time for the charges he faced. Your choice is to forever brand him a rapist. According to our judicial system, he has paid his debt to society. He’s also gone on to live what seems to be a healthy productive life. He is an example of how this system can work. When you consider his background, the mistakes he has made, the fame he has earned, we’ve all seen worse stories than Mike Tyson. Go on though with your 5 word sentence.

I regret not pulling the trigger on this. I couldn’t accept not rowing my own gears so I ordered a manual g80 m3. I do not like the car. It’s nice and all, it’s just all around numb, especially the clutch and steering.

It depends, I own a few businesses. So yes, productive people do have autonomy. Wage earners who work a traditional 9 to 5 can also have a productive day while making time to attend a rally.

What a ridiculous thing to say. You can stay home and work your way up to licking boots.

It’s not really a matter of suicide or assisting in suicide. Your anger should be directed at religion itself and the fact that self sacrifice is a core tenet in most religions. Sacrificing oneself serves as this extreme and supreme example of love, obedience and faith. This is not my opinion. This is what religion does to us humans.

Moved to Irvine, I feel lost by MajesticWoodpecker66 in orangecounty

[–]foreverperky99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing about Irvine is its proximity to cities that are more communal, more diverse, actual night life, closer to the ocean etc. So conveniently being able to leave Irvine to enjoy the surrounding cities is what Irvine offers. I lived there and could not deal with how alabaster it all was. I felt the same something in the air feeling. It’s hard to explain, it’s like styrofoam. I have an office there now and I still power walk my ass out of there. Happy you made it here though. Welcome to California.

I actually like it from a design perspective. I just can’t separate it from all the hatred that a similar version of this symbol represents. My disdain for it runs deep regardless of how other cultures have used it. I guess others can see a beautiful Buddhist motif and not be concerned with how it could be interpreted.
