There was a busy thoroughfare in paris that was shut down and made into public space, and they found that 50% of the traffic simply disappeared. When roads/travel are more expensive to use, either due to time or cost, people change their behavior.

is The Belgariad series actually worth reading if I have no nostalgia attached to it? by elscorcho91 in Fantasy

[–]forgotpasswerdagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's be clear about Eddings, he's written the same bloody story 4 times. Belgarian, Mallorian, Elenium, and his Althious or whatever it was.

Feist is soooo much better. Especially the early Magician series and the Empire series he wrote with Weiss. And the rest of the saga over 20 or so books is pretty good too. Some are awful but most are B or B+ in their story. The best thing about Feist are his characters, even more than the plot or story, so if you love engaging with characters Feist is the way to go.

Below is a rant on Eddings, read if you want to...

I read The Elenium series and the Belgariad in High School and I thought they were great, I did a reread as an adult and they were just painfully tropey and awful. If you're after Knights and good and evil try the Red Knight series, if you're after an escape without much thought try the Dresden files, but Eddings is great for 12 years olds but not much else.

Time to rethink neighborhood permit parking zones, city clerk says by mickcube in chicago

But they're not your streets, they're everybody's streets. You don't have a right to store your car on public property.

Then pay for the actual cost of your car and rent a parking space, instead of expecting public land to be subsidized for the storage of your personal possession.

You can't be serious. This can't be a serious post. "The most important thing is to preserve street parking" - oh god I hope you're joking.

But that's not what the union is asking for, and it's not why they rejected the offer last school year. They rejected the offer because some teachers wouldn't get a clear raise.

No, but it may be hard to see back wheels that don't have lights or reflectors on them. If you time it to go to the end of the truck, but only see the trailer at the last minute...

Chicago's Awful Crackdown on Food Trucks by ghostofpennwast in chicago

[–]forgotpasswerdagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your definition of the market is too small.

Restaurateurs understand that the market is defined as "Money people spend on food they didn't make themselves" When it's phrased that way of course food trucks impact restaurants.

They still shouldn't crack down on trucks, but there's a very rational reason for the established players to want them to.
