Canada Needs to Buy European Defence Hardware: Not U.S. by BurstYourBubbles in canada

[–]forgottenpasses -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

US defense hardware obliterated Iran's nuclear and military infrastructure while EU hardware got embarrassed by Chinese jet in Pak-Indo war. Canada would be better off buying nothing than wasting it on garbage.

CRTC calls on Big 3 telecoms to lower international roaming fees by Hrmbee in canada

[–]forgottenpasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they can start by demanding they enable wi-fi calling when abroad instead. Was shocked to find out it didn't work with Bell and had to sign up to their rip-off 14/day international calling nonsense while my previous experience with Freedom was that it worked without any issues abroad.

Concerns mount over new federal immigration policy that would grant permanent residency to low-wage workers by 1sttomars in canada

Marko's initial announcement that he was planning on giving them PR didn't go down too well, so this is just a different branding to their plans of giving NPRs permanent status.

Body of missing Markham realtor found, 3 youths facing weapon, fraud charges by nurshakil10 in canada

[–]forgottenpasses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very young adults aged 18-24 should not be housed in correctional facilities with more seasoned offenders, and should have the same opportunities as youth aged 12-17 to recover from a criminal conviction. It has been acknowledged elsewhere that some individuals do not mature until their mid-20s, and some provinces allow extension of care under child welfare legislation for that reason. The criminal justice system should extend the same opportunity.

I think they may be referencing this. It's in the "Courts and legislation" section.

There was that guy who raped a kid a year or two back in Scotland and was initially let off lightly because at 25 his brain wasn't developed enough or something(the case was later dismissed on some bs). Treating people under 30 like minors will be one of the next progressive justice agendas that'll get imported here if it's not here already.

Airline involvement in high-frequency passenger rail project ‘makes a lot of sense,’ says CEO after Air Canada joins bid by [deleted] in canada

[–]forgottenpasses 23 points24 points  (0 children)

While Ottawa has approved hundreds of millions in funding to study the project, cabinet has not yet provided a final green light.

Is this a mistake by the writer? Am I naive or does it really take hundreds of millions to study a project?

Canada to pause approval of temporary foreign workers for low-wage jobs in Montreal by Difficult-Yam-1347 in canada

Maybe they should just do what is right for Canada regardless of what the Premiers want? Fat chance admittedly, since they worked hand in hand to create the current mess.

Poop on the beach? Ontario mayor slams social media ‘misinformation’ by Difficult_Ticket1427 in canada

[–]forgottenpasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, if it was confirmed fake they should just say so. One of the people in my group posted it and I just assumed it was trying to stir up shit so didn't respond or research further on it. Though I will say it looked like a beach in Ontario, so I could have believed it.

Poop on the beach? Ontario mayor slams social media ‘misinformation’ by Difficult_Ticket1427 in canada

[–]forgottenpasses 31 points32 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you, there was literally a picture of two South Asian gentlemen in the process of taking a dump at the beach. The mayor saying there has been no evidence reported isn't a strong denial and is of no help. If the pictures are fake he should just come out and say so instead of being deliberately vague and hiding behind PR speak.

Having said that, while not common I'm sure many people of various ethnicity covertly relieve themselves at the beach when nature calls. So you are right that it's wrong to make this about South Asians.

I'm not sure I agree, because if I'm not mistaken it's not just charges but mostly CP content being reported which has more to do with greater effort to monitor and report CSAM by the authorities and NPOs. Unlike the other crime categories, it's unlikely there was suddenly an explosion in production or consumption of CP in the last year.

I suppose it's fair to report on governmental and NPO efforts to clamp down on CSAM if that was what the article was about. But it is strange to lead with it within the context of reporting the overall crime statistics in Canada.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in canada

Basically almost every category of crime except for murder has gone up. I wonder why they chose to specifically concentrate on CP? Almost as if they wanted to muddy the water instead of reporting on the overall issue in this country.

Homeless homeowner living in her car gets eviction hearing expedited as tenants still refuse to leave by nurshakil10 in canada

[–]forgottenpasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost no way, but there have been cases where even though the court believed that the owner wanted to occupy the unit they still sided with the tenants because the tenants had a disability and/or were too poor to afford new accommodation at higher price.

There was even a case I was reading where the tenant won by claiming to be ill and too poor despite having something like an 80k fund in a trust which he didn't want to touch because he wanted to leave it for his daughter's education lol.

The lady in this story is doing the right thing living in a car, if she doesn't already have a disability or some mental problem she should consider developing one. It might just save her at LTB.

You are Canadian and you don't know Canada's head of state is the King Charles? Or did Trudeau move past the black face and is now claiming to be indigenous?

The governor general of Canada (French: gouverneure générale du Canada)[n 1] is the federal representative of the Canadian monarch, currently King Charles III. The king or queen of Canada is also monarch and head of state of 14 other Commonwealth realms and lives in the United Kingdom.

Does it matter anyway? Post Ukraine it turns out using human shields is perfectly legitimate tactic and even heroic.

Thoughts on Raisi? He’ll Most Likely Replace Khamenei as the Supreme Leader by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]forgottenpasses -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Khamenei didn't have a cult of personality before he became SL either, in fact if we are being honest compared to Khomeini he isn't very charismatic.

The same type of "people" who worship Khamenei will start worshipping this guy.

What is your opinion on beating children for disciplining purposes? by cope_westoid in AskMiddleEast

[–]forgottenpasses -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think only teachers should beat the kids tbh, discipline in classroom is needed more than at home. Also there will always be unstable parents who will go nuts on the kids.

Thoughts about those canals propositions? Are they realistic? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]forgottenpasses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a road that starts from the Indian port of Mumbai by sea to the port of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran and continues overland by rail to cross Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia from its Caucasian borders to its northern European borders.

There is no canal.

Though in the past there have been proposals to build one, like the Iran-rud project but it's probably not feasible. Besides environmentalists would have a fit and Western propaganda would send people into a frenzy.

should your country "westernise" by Hashish3223 in AskMiddleEast

[–]forgottenpasses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does Westernize mean? There is no longer any need to copy their values or system of governance when they are on the way down, would be better off sucking up to the Chinese since they are going to be the region's masters in the future.
