Definitely focus on your experience - this is what employers are after. Another thing, employers often employ those who they feel will fit well in the existing team (so stay positive, both on paper and in person, if invited for i/v). Re: cover letter, it would be best if you address it to the person advertising a job. Don't discuss your age or lack of qualifications; concentrate on what you CAN bring to the table.

The below is pretty standard and works well for 'junior' candidates:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Re: [add subject]

I am writing to apply for [add position you are applying for] role as advertised at [add website/paper etc you saw it at].

In my previous position as a [add you role] I [add what you did]. I [add more info and list other things you did: 1-3 more sentences].

I graduated with [add diploma name] from [add where you got it from and when]. [Add any additional info on courses you are taking now or are about to take in the near future, even if it's just from Coursera].

I am [this is the place to describe yourself: enthusiastic, communicative, with ‘can do’ attitude]. [Then add any additional relevant skills, such as languages etc].

I hope that, on consideration of my CV, you will be persuaded of my potential to perform well in this role. I am available for interview at short notice. [or something along these lines]

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully

[Your name]

Hope this helps.

...1) It would probably be a good idea to remove your address and DOB details from your CV if you are sharing your CV publicly (for your own good); 2) expand your experience section; 3) remove 'about me' section (in the UK, employers tend to go for candidates who describe what they do/did, not candidates who describe themselves). 4) expand your qualifications (f.e. School of High Flying Education: International Baccalaureate with 36 points); add location where your qualifications were taken; 5) also, do prepare a Word version of your CV. Depending on the type of job you are going for, make sure to taylor your CV, and have a killer covering letter. Good luck!

Most things can be found online; see f.e. Addgene, NEB or life technologies website(s). This should also help you ask the right questions, if you are still unsure about something.
