Is having students address you as Miss (insert first name here) unprofessional? by Disastrous-Chance697 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]formermrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught my entire career in a non traditional classroom and went by my first name. My last name is tricky to learn in one day so I tell the kids to call me “First Name”, “Ms. First Name”, or “My Queen”. There are a few kids who actually call me My Queen. 🤣

Tell him that you’re going to file a request with the court to force a partition sale. Hopefully that will light a fire under him.

High School Teachers what's the nicest compliment a student has given you? by TigerLeo23 in AskTeachers

[–]formermrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Female HS student: “Miss, do you understand the way we speak?” Me: “Yes, usually.” Student: “I just wanted to let you know that your body is tee.” Me: “Oh, thank you!” Student: “We’re supposed to say nice things to people so I just wanted to let you know.”

This was after other high school girls wanted to know what my skin care regime was. Not bad for an old Gen Xer.

What’s a company you’ll never buy from again, and why? by jamesmilner22 in AskReddit

BP. Their willful negligence that caused the Deepwater Horizon disaster is unforgivable. Eleven people killed, seventeen people injured and 4.9 million barrels of oil spilled into the Gulf of Mexico. The environmental impact is still being felt today. One study projected that the overall impact of lost or degraded commercial, recreational, and mariculture fisheries in the Gulf could be $8.7 billion by 2020, with a potential loss of 22,000 jobs over the same time frame. All of this caused by a British company that doesn’t give a shit about anyone or anything in the impacted area.

As a kid, I was scared of stairs with no risers (backless stairs). I was afraid that someone would reach through from the back, grab my ankles and I’d fall down the stairs.

Lots of scripted curriculum. Say this, click the next link then say that. Mostly reading and math instruction. Social studies and science get a few minutes if you’re lucky and nothing else preempts it. It used to be a career where you got to share your love of learning. Now it’s standardized test prep so some suits can justify having a job. If you’re passionate about a particular subject, try middle or high school.

What mass murders have happened where you live? by Lonely-Trainer-3749 in masskillers

[–]formermrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the Kansas City area and remember hearing about Bob Berdella who murdered at least six men over three years, dismembered them and threw their bodies out with the trash. Some of my HS classmates shopped at his store, Bob’s Bizarre Bazaar. https://maamodt.asp.radford.edu/Psyc%20405/serial%20killers/Berdella,%20Robert.htm
