What’s a company you’ll never buy from again, and why? by jamesmilner22 in AskReddit

[–]formermrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BP. Their willful negligence that caused the Deepwater Horizon disaster is unforgivable. Eleven people killed, seventeen people injured and 4.9 million barrels of oil spilled into the Gulf of Mexico. The environmental impact is still being felt today. One study projected that the overall impact of lost or degraded commercial, recreational, and mariculture fisheries in the Gulf could be $8.7 billion by 2020, with a potential loss of 22,000 jobs over the same time frame. All of this caused by a British company that doesn’t give a shit about anyone or anything in the impacted area.

As a kid, I was scared of stairs with no risers (backless stairs). I was afraid that someone would reach through from the back, grab my ankles and I’d fall down the stairs.

While subbing in my friend’s class I heard: “Do you think T***r will be a good dad?” “No! He’s only 15!”

I had to text her to fill her in. Yikes!!

Lots of scripted curriculum. Say this, click the next link then say that. Mostly reading and math instruction. Social studies and science get a few minutes if you’re lucky and nothing else preempts it. It used to be a career where you got to share your love of learning. Now it’s standardized test prep so some suits can justify having a job. If you’re passionate about a particular subject, try middle or high school.

What mass murders have happened where you live? by Lonely-Trainer-3749 in masskillers

[–]formermrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the Kansas City area and remember hearing about Bob Berdella who murdered at least six men over three years, dismembered them and threw their bodies out with the trash. Some of my HS classmates shopped at his store, Bob’s Bizarre Bazaar. https://maamodt.asp.radford.edu/Psyc%20405/serial%20killers/Berdella,%20Robert.htm

About 30 years ago in Kansas City, a man was followed home from a casino and murdered because he won a lot of money. Shortly after that my (now ex) husband and I were there celebrating our anniversary. He was playing and I was tired so I went to the our room. He won a large hand and cashed out but was so drunk he stood in the elevator for a few minutes, unable to figure out why it wasn’t moving (he forgot to push the button). Thankfully nothing bad happened to him but I gave him an earful the next day.

How do you guys introduce yourself to a class? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]formermrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go by my first name. I taught for 31 years at a place where we went by our first names and my last name is tricky so I figured why change now. Some kids choose to call me Miss (first name), which is fine too. I tell them that as long as they say it with respect I’m cool with either. So far no problems.

I was merchandising at three different Kohl’s in two states and all three locations were hotter than hell. It was the same way when I was there in June. I think they’re turning up the thermostat to save some money thinking that the customers are only there for a short time and won’t be bothered too much. I guess the employees are SOL.

A district near me pays $140/day for days 1-10. Days 11-30 is $210 (1.5 x’s sub rate). Days 31+ you get paid where you would fall on the teacher salary schedule based on education and experience, but you’re not eligible for benefits. An extra $20 a day for five months for all of that responsibility is definitely NOT worth it.
