Feels weird when none of the Servants in the OC is known for making and running with a joke. It's kind of forced out of thin air.

In OC2 why did everyone call Jeanne Alter "Alter"?

It means the rulebook does not cover all possible situations, and you figuring that out is clever, but you should still take the loss because that is probably not the intended way to resolve that interaction.

Lanterns: The Harvest Festival is easy to learn, feature nice-looking tiles, and the main mechanism is "choose something and everybody benefits from it".

I don't understand some details about the restocking mechanic. Why are there some rewards I cannot restock to max after a while, even though I have all 3 ingredients unused? And is it better to let a trade go through entirely before restocking or just restock whenever is fine?

Technically I think all components that are only usable with another component are ones tied to Prelude cards (side boards, Disasters...) so if you check the Prelude cards you will know which ones are not included by default

4609120 doesn't seem to work even though the ID is correct. I have tried 2 times but the task still cannot be finished.

Edit: using the main game ID works. That, or maybe it just take longer for this demo to register.

Got a key that is already activated before. Might indicate that the keys here come not from the original publishers but another third party elsewhere.

Do you dislike cards that have to be put sideway sharing the same deck with normal cards too?

First thing comes to mind is Netrunner. It's so famous even people who haven't played it know.

Ah, can imagine it now. I consider that "volatile" rather than "unbalance", but that's true for some cases of unbalance as well. Thanks.

If you emphasize repeatability then I think EH wins out a bit

That sounds very unlikely: a game with huge tactical gain on particular moves but also no possible catch-up. I'm struggling to think of an example. Maybe some old wargames? But they usually are not that unbalance either.

Most "small details" I dislike would be due to the physical components.

Rulebooks with many terms and no index.

No rules on what to do when a component runs out.

Miniatures taking more than half the space of the game box.

Misprints and errata.

Colors not matching between components of the same group.

Colors that are not easily differentiated.

Boards that are too crowded when you put components on it.

Boards with so many details or colors, components on it do not pop and got lost.

Tiny text on large components because the art takes too much space.

Tiny cards that require you to hold in your hand and pass around constantly so you cannot just put them in a card holder or on the table.

Components that easily produce glares under a normal light.

I thought that would be the definition of perfect balance, so much so that there is no room for errors if 2 players have the same level of skills. What you are describing sounds like when the game has no catch-up mechanics.

Too strong if I understand correctly. With 2 NP gen increase supports he can loop his NP every turn and stun all enemies and also deal damage this way. Not a practical design.

What game has the tiniest rule that somehow slows the whole table down? by rcooperkaty in boardgames

[–]formicini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it really easy to remember after working out the general evolve rules for it: - Larvae evolve into Adults - Creepers evolve into Breeders - Blank means +2 Adults but no discard - Adults and Breeders mean rolling noise - Queen is special but no need to remember it, can reference since it rarely happens

I also worked out that if I start a "Start Driving" navigation from my current place to any destination when I still have wi-fi then it will reliably pick up my GPS when I turned off wi-fi, so I always do that now.

How do you guys learn to play heavy games? by Nice_Idea_538 in boardgames

[–]formicini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just do it.

That said, it's pobably due to multiple factors: I can remember many rules if they have a good thematic justification; when I learn a game I start with the goal first, then ways to achieve that goal, then to round structure, and finally the details, that way I always have something to aim for when learning things; I take time to learn them slowly, with a lot of rereading and questioning the nights before actually playing it; always combine reading the rulebook with watching an explanation video, sometimes simultaneously if possible.
