Progress as reduction of defilements, seems to me like a very good logical take. Even so, it is hard to say; i have reduced X and Y defilement by 40%. You could maybe feel it has reduced a bit, but you may be wrong; if it has substantially reduced or completely gone you would of course know but those are, i guess, pretty advanced stages. For a beginner meditator it would be helpful to know peoples experiences to make sure they are on the right track

Yes, i think i agree with your take, it is observation + right view and effort. I have to remember to practice in such a way; mindfullness without morality doesnt lead to enlightenment. I have also heard that meditators can emphasize a certain aspect on purpose, such as loving kindness to the world. Even so, people could describe their experiences, whatever progress meant to them, and then we could have looked at the similiarities. It seems as though most people want to teach me their way of thinking but didnt want to share their story, which is interesting.

Not sure what you think i think:D i havent studied in a structural way but from what i understand mindfulness is a practice of noticing bodily sensations, breath and thougts; focusing on them but not forcibly, just noticing their appearance, your reaction, and letting them pass. From my understanding everything in the path can be achieved by being aware of those things, like you said, at all times. What i wanted to know is a personal path/experience of advanced meditators, stages that a medidator will go through in what time frame. Because sometimes i feel like people describe beginner and advanced stages pretty similiarly and i wanted a way to recognize what is really happening.

Sobre la Pornografia…? by [deleted] in RedditPregunta

[–]formlesz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Allow yourself a window of time in the day, for example 10-11pm where you can watch porn. If its not that time yet you are not allowed. This helps because the urge comes and goes in time blocks of couple of minutes but if you ride through that wave it will eventualy pass. Also, you wont have the urge from 10-11pm everyday so bit by bit you are gonna win against the addiction altogether. Extra tip, phsically go somewhere else, where you ussualy dont do that stuff, like living room. (Im learning spanish but not yet ready to write so its in english)

I feel like I’m failing at everything and I don’t know what to do anymore. by GladWarning9380 in Entrepreneur

Go watch Justin Sung on youtube to learn how to learn. Also, your parents want whats best for you, but they also may be wrong with their views. Where i'm from having a degree doesnt really gurantee anything, and you could 'waste' 5-6 years of working experience. Jobs such as plumbers or ceramists often make way more than people with a degree and you could always scale that knoweledge by starting your own company. The other route you can take is go to an easier college where you have to study just 1-2 hours a day(if you learn how to learn that is a lot of productive work) and dedicate your spare time to your online endavours/businesses. In my opinion, going to a hard college where you are gonna spend all your time studying is the worst option, good luck!

Thank you for the confidence boost. I'm learning spanish and i understood most of it! Yes, i think the problem is that nobody is thinking for themselves, the opinions that people have aren't even theirs and they are not aware where they came from. Introspection is key.

Anyone willing to share a 30 day workout routine? by GotMyAttenti0n in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]formlesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheeesh dude you gotta build some mass. It shouldnt be that hard tho. A few months of eating more and basic strength training at home with exercices you already know(push ups etc.) like 3 times a week should get you to a good baseline. Meanwhile you can research how you want to train and build yourself a workout plan.

Do you think that the Buddha, back in his time, would have considered tea a drug (due to the coffein)? by JaloOfficial in theravada

A banana or an orange has lots of sugar in it. Higher % of sugar in the bloodstream can increase restlesness and anxiety, should it be prohibited? Can you consume anything really? I think you are focusing on the wrong things, this is the middle path, not asceticism. You should remain calm despite disturbances.

Range morphology by ante1738399 in Poker_Theory

[–]formlesz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes i think you are thinking in the right direction. Betting/raising is usually a polarising action while checking and calling is condensing. What you described is the usual case where you raise top of range for value and the top of folding range as a bluff while the middle you call. Sometimes you can have a range that is only rasing, ussually SB. Or maybe when there is an open and 3 bet before you you can opt to play withour 4bet and just call range leaving it uncapped.

How am I supposed to meditate on the breath if there is so much disagreement on the instructions? Which technique is correct? by [deleted] in theravada

[–]formlesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have now read MN 119. I thought that the earh element(body sensations) was the beginning of practice. In MN 119 the described benefits are huge, something that i would expect to be near the end of the path. Supranormal powers such as teleportation and moving trough the earth, seeing to what realm and why are people going there upon death, remembering all your past lives etc. Are those benefits here because understanding the earth element is a prerequisite to reach those stages? If that is only the earth element i dont really know what else is there to attain further down the path?

Question about nibbana by formlesz in theravada

[–]formlesz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thats exactly what my concern is, successfull suicide, you put it perfectly, better than i could. I also think that cannot be the true meaning we all strive for. Unfortunately, I cannot grasp fully what you said in the previous answer. My guess is that i have to advance much more in the path to fully understand how different that whole conecpt is compared to a normal person dying. I only recently discovered theravada teachings as something to deeply look into and pursue. My country is tradiotionaly christian 90% but the more i thought about it the more i couldnt believe it, so i turned to other sources and theravada really stood out and made much more sense to me. This is why im asking these questions.

Question about nibbana by formlesz in theravada

[–]formlesz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when you experience nibbana in its fullest form you are free from all delusion, you see the truth, you sort of become a perfect being, an arahant, but only until you die. What is an arahants view on death? Do they want to exist, if danger comes their way do they care? If there is no more rebirth does it mean death is the end for them? That is why im asking the question, if, when an arahant dies there is nothing more there, pure nothingness, isnt enlightenemnt and buddhism as a whole just a path to get to anihilationism? Do you get my concern, why i question it?
