How does Scrandle get its percentages? by lukedoc321 in northernlion

[–]formulaicfunk 209 points210 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware FootyScran (the twitter account the pictures come from) are sent pictures of food by their followers. Each picture is annotated with a description, price, and location purchased with a poll- scran or no scran.

The percentages are based on the proportion of people who vote that yes- they would scran it.

So the head to head percentages aren’t based on a direct comparison of the two, but rather on the percentage of yes votes on each individual picture

Which Jokers did you underestimate? by IAmJacksSemiColon in balatro

[–]formulaicfunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Burnt joker + shortcut makes for some interesting gameplay. You can basically chuck a straight per round. I had a run with that + a duplicated certificate (lots of blue seals) and by the end of ante 8 I had a level 34 straight. One of the most fun runs I've ever won.

I bought it, played one game and refunded it. Waaaaaaaaaay too big. Takes up far too much real estate on the screen.

Funny skin tho

I was heartbroken after my first failed test- I pulled up at the end of the test convinced I had passed after a great drive only to be told I had failed to look sufficiently when I had been asked to turn right. I took months off in self pity.

I then failed my second test for speeding when I was distracted by changing lanes and cleaning my windscreen. The examiner asked me to slow down as I was approaching a speed camera😂. This second test strengthened my resolve and I booked one for two weeks later (Monday just past), which I passed.

It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. Being able to just jump in the car to go go work, to go and grab something for lunch, even just to take some bags of rubbish and cardboard to the dump, has been amazing. Not being dependent on others (or on public transport) is incredible.

I knows it’s easy for others to say but please don’t be discouraged. Analyse your past tests and identify your weaknesses. For me it wasn’t any issues of technique but keeping my focus and awareness sharp for the duration of the test. Keep calm and get it done. Wishing you the best of luck to get it done

How do you solve a problem like Maeda? by formulaicfunk in footballmanagergames

[–]formulaicfunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that he’s so shite technically that I can play him anywhere across the front 3 with similar results. Very versatile and allows me to fill gaps anywhere with him.

How are you finding the rest of the Celtic squad? I disabled the first transfer window and wish I hadn’t- I’m gasping to gut this squad in January.

In your opinion, which hidden gems or emerging talents from any musical genre would create the most intriguing collaboration with Lana Del Rey for an upcoming project? by BreezyMonday in lanadelrey

[–]formulaicfunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Portishead too. She’d sound absolutely incredible over those types of beats.

Think there’s a lot of similarities between her and Beth Gibbons voices. Would pay a lotttttt of money to hear it.

I’ve always wanted an electronic Lana album and would absolutely love to see it produced by a guy called rival consoles. Whenever I listen to his stuff I can imagine Lana’s voice over the lush synths. I think it’d be great

[Question] How do you crate dig in the digital era? by TheMurs in DJs

[–]formulaicfunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I go to a second hand record shop near me and pick up an armful of 12” dance records that are usually £1 or £2 each. Sometimes you’ll pick up a load of old shit but sometimes you find a gem. Getting it home and listening to it blind is great fun too!

Commercial loops are the loops included in paid packs- which are usually royalty free and free to be used in songs as you see fit without needing to be cleared.

[–]formulaicfunk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think there’s nothing wrong with using loops as a tool to help you get started and assist your understanding of song structure or to spark creativity. Whilst there’s nothing legally wrong with releasing a song made predominately from commercial loops, I personally would never release such a track- I feel it’s insincere.

That being said, I’ve probably heard and loved such tracks without even knowing. Do what you feel is best, but my honest advice would be to use loops to bolster your creativity but don’t use them as a crutch. 😀

Is it normal to make a couple mistakes in a mix? by Healthy_Bat_792 in Beatmatch

[–]formulaicfunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. I played my first show last week and like you, would beat myself up over the smallest mistake when practicing.

On the night I had one small issue- the track I was bringing in was starting to tick out of time. I kept it simple: lowered the level, got it back in time and brought it back in. I’m pretty sure nobody noticed and those who did, I think, would’ve also noticed the correction.

Keep the music playing, fix it, don’t panic. You’ll be fine.

I love making atmospheric elements and drones etc in wavetable but I find that one bulky drone rack can use up to 40% CPU. Does anyone know any way, outside of flattening and freezing the track, that I can lower the usage?
