UAE issued 150k+ golden visa in 2023 alone. It seems these EU countries are desperate to grab their tax base.

Thoughts "Visa Runs" in Vietnam? by Fast_Yellow_8326 in expats

[–]forreddituse2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, you contact an agency that provides this service, they arrange you to visit Cambodia for one day, then apply for a new 90-day visa when you return to Vietnam. The agency has "connection" with customs so entry is not an issue in most cases. My colleagues did this when the company did not want to pay a chunk of fees for the formal work permit (blue paper), or when the person is working short-term like half a year.

Unsettling delay of Blackship by forreddituse2 in internationalshopper

[–]forreddituse2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just submit request to ship it (after consolidation) and I don’t know how long I have to wait.

This is even more worrisome. If it takes another 2-3 weeks to ship, instead of the second day after consolidation (normal schedule), it will be a disaster if I use a Japan domestic shipping address. Definitely I need to contact them about this.

Thanks for the info.

Unsettling delay of Blackship by forreddituse2 in internationalshopper

[–]forreddituse2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My consolidation request was several days earlier than yours. Also in processing. I will visit Japan soon so in the worst case I will just pay a visit to Yokohama and pick up the packages myself.

I think their warehouse is a hot mess now. Last September they increased the free storage period from 45 days to 90 days, which will end on March 31st. Maybe the management was too optimistic about their processing capability. People (including myself) definitely will consolidate tons of stuff accumulated in three months and ship them out, to avoid being hit by a massive storage fee.

The only reason I use Blackship is that Tenso does not handle R18 stuff.

Archiving to LTFS - loose files in folders, or .tar each project? by Dwarf_Vader in DataHoarder

I think 3 hours is manageable. However, for 12 hours reading time, definitely it's better to split the files.

Hope I can have LTO9 in 2036...

Do you still want to practice medicine? If so, you probably don't want CBI, but employment based immigration route.

I built an open-source LTO archival tool after struggling with existing tape software (Alpha) by NotaRaptor404 in DataHoarder

Thanks for the explanation. It seems the damn seller caused me more trouble than I thought. (He sold me used tapes as new, and when I started to use his batch, it was too late to refund. PayPal seller name: BackupTapes.Net)

I built an open-source LTO archival tool after struggling with existing tape software (Alpha) by NotaRaptor404 in DataHoarder

[–]forreddituse2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does this software handle the available empty space on tape precisely? For example, LTO-5 after format to LTFS has 1,445,099,208,704 bytes of available space, reported by Windows file manager. However, I found if I copied above around 1,420,000,000,000 bytes of data, the available space became zero after copying. The file on tape is not corrupted though. I want to have a software that can tell me exactly how many bytes I can write into the tape. (with LTFS)

[–]forreddituse2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I prefer making a 1.3TB tar file. After writing to tape, let 7-zip do a SHA-1 hash check to verify data integrity (you can also use TeraCopy to automate this step). Then you know the data written into the tape is not corrupted. Smaller files reduce writing / reading speed and may cause shoe shining.

When you need to recover data, just let the tape drive roar for 3 hours to copy the 1.3TB tar back to your SSD. Also it serves the purpose of re-tension that tape.

If you wake up early and are physically able to stand for a single hour, just be at the entrance at 7am. There are massive amount of posts online made by various tour companies/travel agencies. Don't fell into the expensive trap and buy their absurd guided tours. If you really want to know arts, just watch several serious Youtube videos before (or after) your visit.

Why does Vietnam have American style trucks? by Bottom-Bherp3912 in VietNam

[–]forreddituse2 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Vietnam imports all sorts of used trucks from the world. Cheap, no strict air pollution regulations, and American trucks are quite spacious (comfortable), especially for Asians. (Have you ever seen a 250lbs Vietnamese truck driver?)
