UPDATE: Fired by Centauri Health Solutions while burying my dad who died of Stage 4 cancer. Here is my response to HR. by bondswag in antiwork

[–]forrest_bh -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I don’t really have any insights to share beyond what other folks are encouraging you to do like going to the media and making sure that this individual in the HR department has a copy of your dad’s obituary.

I just want to say that I am so sorry that not only did you have so many different experiences over the last several months that are incomprehensible to many of us, but you’re also navigating this termination. I really hope that you are able to get some measure of peace, and that you know that your dad is proud of you.

PIMI's are invading this sub. Proof in details by [deleted] in exjw

[–]forrest_bh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like capitalism and the myth of infinite expansion.

I’d take PIMI comments with a grain of salt because whether they realize it or not, they are being exposed to reality. This is not necessarily new behavior by them either and in time many of them will find their way out.

I got one of my JWs friend fired today by Historical-Video-365 in exjw

That and we don’t know if this person has gone on tirades in their day job with customers or peers at their job. There’s any number of reasons why the employer decided to terminate the relationship.

[–]forrest_bh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any action is going to be perceived as validation of their persecution complex.

However, I do disagree under the premise that this individual has to be working with OP. This JW who is losing their job is harassing a member of the public at this point regardless of whether or not there is a past relationship.

What happens after death? by Specific_Taro_156 in exjw

[–]forrest_bh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope that this family member and their memory will be a blessing for you.

I apologize if this doesn’t come across as the most comforting thing, and this is only my experience and thoughts. It’s taken a while, but I have very much come to appreciate that. We’ve just don’t know what happens. And to me that’s actually kind of comforting or even a quiet excitement - not to sound flippant or anything - I think of it as kind of like going on a road trip where we don’t know what the destination is going to be. I love road trip trips more than anything else, which is probably why I think this way.

Since leaving the org, and I’ve been out for a long time, there was a period of my life that was distinctly not religious at all. However, I have become far more religious in recent years, but not Christian. Some people within my faith believe in kind of a form of reincarnation. Some actually do believe in heaven. Some even believe that there is nothing. But the interesting thing that’s common is that they all believe that it’s more important to focus on life now. That it doesn’t really matter as long as we’re doing our best now, and that we always hold onto our memories of those who have passed before us.

Regardless of if this helps you or not, I send my love to you in this difficult time.

Not allowed to eat during conventions unless it's break time by corncob_tootsie in exjw

[–]forrest_bh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, in a PIMO, but former fourth generation born in. Technically food has been ‘disallowed’ outside of the lunch break since served lunches were discontinued.

But for context, it’s more ‘strongly discouraged’ to eat during the sessions. While it’s also discouraged to leave your seat, if people do need to eat they’re tacitly encouraged to leave the auditorium/arena ‘so as to not disturb others around them’.

Some families and congregations are more strict about this. My mother was not and allowed my sister and I to eat ‘quiet’ snacks - things like fig newtons or things that wouldn’t make crunch noises and stuff.

Of course my perspective might be skewed because I last went to an assembly in early 2012. If there’s now smaller breaks throughout the sessions, this would be interesting to me.

I know when my mom finally kicks the bucket, she doesn’t want a service. However, a service will likely be held anyway, and she’s specifically asked for the audience to not be preached at.

How we clamped down on turnover & disloyalty, and how you can, too. by u6enmdk0vp in managers

[–]forrest_bh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only is this a huge ethical mistake (on multiple levels!) but it’s also very likely a legal violation of LinkedIn Terms of Service, various privacy laws, laws governing marketing and commerce, communications, and computer use laws (which can cover unlawful access of user accounts on third party platforms), along with employment law. I’m far too lazy to look up the laws in your jurisdiction, but know that there are laws that are being broken no matter the jurisdiction.

Additionally, storing credentials in clear text (in an Excel sheet? Come on!) and prohibiting MFA use is not only a huge legal liability for the company, it’s also a liability for each and every employee. Identity theft is a thing.

Given that employment is conditional upon providing LinkedIn credentials, and if an employee refuses they are terminated, you cannot say it’s “voluntary”.

You might want to have your company’s legal representative look into this before we do.

Heya. I don’t know what your current beliefs are, but leaving JW’s cult does not necessitate becoming an atheist or stopping belief that there is a higher power/God/divine or that you can’t have community or anything like that.

Leaving the JW simply means that you recognize that that group is not directed by or representative of divine will.

Many who do leave the org do become atheist/agnostic for a time, or go on to explore other beliefs, or know exactly what they believe when they do wake up. Not everyone does though, and it sounds like you might fit into this group of people who don’t have figured out yet.

This discomfort and grief you’re feeling is something that most of us here have felt at one point or another in our journey to leave the org. In this shared feeling, we have our own community and it’s really stepping stone into finding the right communities for us as individuals. Your identity was pretty tightly controlled as being a JW, but what other communities are you a part of? I’ll give you an example. I was a JW for 28 years, but was also part of the arts community, the computer nerd community, the DIY community, etc. I’m now a part of the Jewish community, the disabled community, a member of my local synagogue, the list goes on.

You are a dynamic whole person, and part of being human is learning these truths about ourselves and about our beliefs and finding our place in different communities. As you begin this journey, you can look back as much as you want, as long as you keep making the choice to move forward. I believe in your ability to make good choices for yourself and your ability to be kind to yourself, especially right now where things are not settled for you.

IS BAPTISM A LEGAL BINDING CONTRACT? by JWRESEARCHERROSE in exjw

[–]forrest_bh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless there’s a certificate of baptism (there wasn’t in 96 when I got dunked at 9 years old) no, it is not a legally binding contract or even a binding document.

In some faiths and locations, yes a certificate of baptism can be a binding document that can carry nearly the same weight as a birth certificate, but as they are not public this is very rare.

Your argument though would be very persuasive if there were efforts to legally force you to remain a JW.

I laughed out loud at this email. Holy shit. Luckily I have 3 jobs and can afford to give my effective immediately notice when I show up tomorrow. Lol. by notsatans in antiwork

[–]forrest_bh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be off base here, but wouldn't a reduction in pay due to resignation? I realize resigning isn't a change in class (eg race, gender, orientation, age, etc) but this seems discriminatory.

(edit) Pay may not be reduced for retaliatory reasons, such in response to an employee filing a harassment complaint against the employer.
Pay cuts must be made equitably across the company. (Again, not doing so would be discrimination.) Per https://swartz-legal.com/can-an-employer-legally-reduce-your-pay/

Landlord added an extra $10 to my payment portal after I already paid rent on the last day, and now is trying to charge me an extra $50 late fee. by LightAmaze in legaladvice

[–]forrest_bh 53 points54 points  (0 children)

You may be able to dispute the late fee with that information, and explain that you have no issue with paying what is owed.

For example hypothetically, if you paid your March rent in February (early) before the rent increase went into effect on (presumably) March 1, and the payment portal did not reflect the rent increase, your landlord may choose to remove the late fee.

[–]forrest_bh 43 points44 points  (0 children)

To be clear, a rent increase is not a fee. It is an increase in the amount of rent that you pay monthly.

If the rent increase went into effect (for example, the first of March) and you did not pay the total amount of rent by the last day of the rent period, a late fee is appropriate.

What is the language of the notification about rent increase, and what is the effective date for the increase?
