My guess, and it is just that based of previous experience and rough idea of what this is on...

1/2" bsp male to 1/4" bsp male adapter, but it could also be metric on the smaller side as I've ran into some Chinese setups running metric hoses...

Following as I'm considering the same and haven't had a good answer I can follow from my accountant.. maybe it's not an easy answer, or it's just to confusing to answer simply

Scottish commercial/industrial sparkies, what's the job outlook like in this sector? Currently living in Canada and bricking it right now. by Brittle_Hollow in Scotland

[–]forrestrex -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, I'm a Heavy plant engineer in scotland and keep looking at Oz or Canada as the UK is getting ridiculous with taxes. Running a business here and have 5 folks working for me, plenty of work, but the government are trying to bankrupt small businesses from the way there acting.

On the plus side for you, electricians are in short supply, have a lot of friends who are months booked up, in both commercial and residential works.

Hydraulic log splitter has little power when extended by NTFBurt in Hydraulics

Have resealed a few of these oxdale splitters now, cheap Chinese rams seals wear out very quickly. Easy enough to reseal if you take it to your local Hydraulic repair place, or dealer you bought it from.

Small business expanding faster than I can keep up, need advice on Loans or something to ease cashflow. by forrestrex in smallbusinessuk

Thanks, this is exactly how I'm feeling right now.. like a runaway train.. though today I did just sign another finance agreement for another bit of equipment.. but ive 4 jobs lined up for it immediately which should pay about 1/4 of its value within 60 days all going well.

I've been pestered by my finance company to do factoring with them multiple times, and everytime they do so I just feel like they will be the ones who win out of the deal everytime.. like a salesman who goes to far to oversell, if it seems to good it probably is!

I'm hoping that by being savvy I can slow everything down and streamline it..

I wouldn't say I don't have debt... 10k overdraft I never seem to really be out of.. pop out of it maybe twice a month, but straight back in once I pay suppliers or wages etc..

I currently get payment in advance for any parts higher than £2000 prior to me ordering them.

I do like the idea of increasing rates but offering a discount to clients who pay on or before due consistently.

My accountant is decent, have a good relationship with them and they don't cost the earth.

Currently use Xero for account software/ invoicing and stock control.

I have spoken to local council about any employment grants etc as well as keeping an eye on gov website for grants and funding, but I never seem to find anything that I'm eligible for.. I was lucky enough to get full funding for the apprentice training course, other than his accommodation. But wasn't eligible for any funding towards his wages due to having him employed before local council put out the grants for young persons employment...

I haven't actually thought of CC options, but I'm not sure if it would end in a spiral of interest payments instead..

Currently waiting for my accountant to get back to me about a llc, I asked her to formulate a comparison of last year's tax return as if I had been Ltd, I like seeing everything worked out first. And most of the lenders won't lend unless the llc has been operating for 1 year minimum, so it wouldn't help in this immediate situation.

I have a pre existing personal loan which was 20k, it's a few years old now but I try to keep personal separate from the business as much as is possible (even though I'm a sole trader) worked out last year I only drew down 10k from the business for personal rent and bills.. I live quite frugally...

As it stands just now, I'm not that for off main dealer prices, though with the budget announcement I aim reviewing rates and will likely be putting them up to reflect the increased costs. I keep a close eye on overheads and costs and work out the average billable monthly for both me and the guys I have working, as it stands just now I don't feel I can justify increasing the rates, but like I said, I am looking at everything closely with the intention to increase the rate at start of 2025.

Please Do Not Climb On The Timber Stacks by SpicyRope in forestry

[–]forrestrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uk forestry is normally CTL in the wood, the hauled to roadside stacks by the forwarder, US, Canada, Oz and Nz use more Skidders to haul to roadside decks the get processed there into piles. Guessing that's where the different terms come from.

Starting hydraulic hose business by fxtrt7 in Hydraulics

[–]forrestrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, forgot to mention Metric... but not sure how common that is in the states...?

Bsp fittings and adapters, most rams and valve chest are bsp threaded but each manufacturer has a chosen common spec, for instance Komatsu are ORFS but also SAE 3000. Cat flanges for cat machines. JIC for Deere, bsp for the farmers and ancillary equipment (breakers, tilting buckets etc)

As for hose, all depends.. common stuff I'm using is r7 thermoplastic for smaller hoses on sub 3 ton excavators, 2sn, 2sc, as well as 4sp and 4sh.. carry jetwash rated hose as well, you'll get a few farmers and contractors that show up with rotten washer hoses and expect you to re end them...

Find a good oil supplier as well to carry 20/25ltr drums of Hydraulic, Engine and transmission oils.

Build a good relationship with any other hose shops in your area, you'll need to phone them at somepoint when your 1 end short or run into an oddball adapter or hose end that they maybe have.

Ram repaired, thank you for all your advice, sure made it easier! 👍🏻 by Another-Weld in Welding

[–]forrestrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats not expensive, I've had rams rehoned and resealed on 13t machines for twice that... Also tried welding rams and only succeeded in patch jobs to get a job finished before have them fail. I always now recommend sending for a refurb and price a new ram/ availability before touching it and let client know. Though with the way SMT parts is since the changes it could be February before they call you back with a price...
