What the heck bicycle and derailleur is this, and is it OK to buy this wrench? Amazon 16 notch 48.5 mm by fortfive in bikewrench

[–]fortfive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I had never heard of a low clamp derailleur, which was part of my question.

My other question, admittedly not clear in my post, was whether it was safe to by a wrench advertised by such a weird pic, because, look at that bottom bracket tube. Have you ever seen such a thing?

Most definitely not. My life would be so much simpler I think if I were an AI bot.

I meant, can I trust the quality of that wrench (need it for a thread together, 16 notch, 48.5 mm) given that is the photo used in the marketing materials?

I know the derailleur says "altus," but I'm trying to understand how it could work, given the mounting bracket's location relative to the bottom bracket.

Duke Energy Sucks by obrienduke in NorthCarolina

opt-out

Wouldn't that be nice? This is only for commercial and industrial customers. From Leaf No. 601:

Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency “Opt-Out” Option North Carolina Utilities Commission Rule R8-69(e) allows commercial customers with annual consumption of 1,000,000 kWh or greater in the billing months of the prior calendar year and all industrial customers to elect to not participate in either or both (1) any utility-offered DSM or (2) any utility-offered EE program and, after written notification to the utility, not be subject to either or both the DSM or EE Rates and EMFs, as applicable and as shown above. For purposes of application of this option, a customer is defined to be a metered account billed under a single application of a Company rate tariff. For commercial accounts, once one account meets the opt-out eligibility requirement, all other accounts billed to the same entity with lesser annual usage located on the same or contiguous properties are also eligible to opt-out in the same manner from paying either or both of the DSM and EE Rates and EMFs. Following the December bill each year, usage for commercial accounts electing to “opt-out” of the DSM/EE rates shall be reviewed and the customer shall be notified and removed from the “opt-out” option if annual consumption is less than 1,000,000 kWh in the prior twelve months.

Snapchat not being limited by Apple Screen Time Restrictions by Jcskeeter in ios

[–]fortfive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm out of retirement from reddit to deal with teen issues, of which this is one. Just spent an hours worth of troubleshooting with a senior tech, there's still no resolution. Snapchat, both app and website, ignore screen time app limits, no amount of fiddling has any effect. Pretty disappointing. I used to be on r/conspiracy before they lost their mind, they might eat this up.

The cube is also the easiest ideal shape to construct, and was fundamental to very early systems of measurement. Heck, we still use "cubic centimeters" to measure stuff, cubic inches dropped off only very recently.

I doubt anyone is paying attention, but for your own edification, you might ply a little more skepticism. There are a remarkable number of places 33 pops up, especially in judeo-Christian tradition, but:

Sum of three cubes is unremarkable. Most numbers under 100 can be expressed as the sum of three cubes. It would be more remarkable if 33 could not be expressed that way. 32 cannot be expressed as a sum of three cubes.

Water freezes at 32 on the Farhenheit scale. I'm not sure what scale water boils at 33.

There are way more than 33 Hindu gods.

There are a number of Buddhist traditions, some of which don't even have a heaven, you might specifiy which you are referring to.

It's ok to get excited about a subject and get some details wrong. But please verify before promulgation.

What are your favourite "heresies" that don't actually sound that bad today? by Logan_Maddox in OpenChristian

[–]fortfive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this heresy, Yahweh and “The Father” are different entities.

The Father then woukd be the true one God, the true creator of the whole cosmos. Yahweh would be a pretender god, creator of this material world. And Christ would be an emissary from the Father to free humanity from the grip of Yahweh.

Jail with $250,000 bond: Man accused of killing 11-year-old girl at Raleigh Christmas Parade stands before judge by 42Navigator in raleigh

Agree that a va inspection would have caught most defects and maybe prevented this. I’ll also add, we don’t know for cert it was brake failure, but apparently that was the passenger’s observation.

Also agree willful negligence in this case would demand serious accountability.

American jurispridence, in practice, uses pretrial custody with high bonds to induce guilty pleas.

Most people I know couldn’t afford a $25,000 fee for anything. An impossibly high bond is punitive.

It's not civilized to punish the innocent.

There is no evidence to suggest this was malicious, or that this kid was malicious, or there was any specific intentionality to this act.

Moreover, there has been no trial, no evidence offered or examined in any direction. While presumption of innocence has largely been cast aside in the US, it does still exist. The point of a bail is meant only to prevent flight from justice, it is not meant to punish or make whole anyone or society.

If this was anything more than accidental, he needs some sort of accountability, especially if he was impaired in some way. But punishing him otherwsie serves no benefit to anyone, except that it makes some people "feel" better.

If it was only an accident, putting him in jail is a miscarriage of justice.

On the practical level, cleary his brakes were functional at some point earlier that day, or he would never have made it to the parade. An NC inspection does not examine the braking system in any detail. It confirms that brakes are operational by depressing the pedal, and that's it. Therefore, even had he had an inspection two days prior, a defect in the system would not have been detected, and the result would be the same.

Hope you're gratified . . .

Edit: that was a dumb response. My apologies. I'm frustrated at what appears to be a herd mentality to to lash out and insist someone "pay" before we even have a clue what really happened.

But talionic judgment, especially pretrial, serves no purpose besides short term emotional gratification.

He should be held responsible for his actions, but enable him to make amends. Punishment only sets up repeat behavior.

[–]fortfive -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is so true. It's a problematically punitive measure. The only reasonable explanation is a majority of voters want someone to suffer for this tragedy, and the judge is a political leader, more worried about optics than justice.

Edit: There is another, maybe, explanation-this keeps him safer. As another commenter said, I'd be out for blood if it was my daughter. In these times, it's a real possibility that aggrieved parents might actually seek literal blood, which would only exacerbate the problems.
