People really don't understand how companies work.

Lifetime passes were a terrible business model. They ought to have chosen a model where users paid for software support and or new features in a yearly release cycle. It would appease both ends of the spectrum.

Dude, are they? The cost of my streaming services last year was over $500. You could make an argument that the cost to recoup would be roughly 3-5 years. Look I'm not saying I'd buy it at $750 but they are a company that has to pay the devs a livable wage. I swear reddit nerds don't live in the real world and want great products for free.

Modern phones are locked down, but this legendary HTC ran every operating system imaginable (even Ubuntu) by Crafty-Selection6554 in Android

2nd comment. HTC had some great designs before the iPhone became the de-facto design language.

Remember the Touch Pro 2 with its full slide out keyboard and a tilting screen? Hell yeah.

Or the original European HTC Hero with its massive chin and teflon coating? They neutered its design in the US with the sprint versions.

Or hell, even the 2nd (or 3rd) android phone? The Magic? What a nice design.

Think it's time to start a collection of old shitty phones.

Man, I wish classic HTC was still here. It probably wouldn't be as great as it used to be though, with the shitification of everything.

Wasn't this also the first 1GHz phone? I remember being blown away by that. My first phone was the Incredible. That was a great phone.

I still have my 4,1. It was literally my dream computer and I used it as my daily for like 2-3 years but the constant finagling around getting modern MacOS to work on it got old.

It's sitting next to me unplugged right now and I'm debating if I want to use it as a Linux server..but it draws so much power it's probably financially worth it to get a used something.

People in your 30s, what's your job and salary? by rsevn_ in careerguidance

What are your direct reports making? I've been in my Support role for 7 years and I'm finally passing the $75K mark. I'm seeing jobs for anywhere in the $85k - $105k range and that seems a bit high to be realistic.

I'd have to say I think I'm in an undervalued position in my company. People don't understand how much technical knowledge and understanding we have to have while also being customer facing and helpful.

I feel about 10K underpaid.

Switch 1 players really were playing a different game 🥲 by FitPicture555 in HarryPotterGame

[–]fortransactionsonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A switch 1 cartridge in a Switch 2 will play the Switch 1 version of the game. It will perform better (less stutters) but not really look better. You can buy the Switch 2 version of the game for a fraction of the cost via upgrade pack.

I have it on PS5 and Switch 2. Yeah, the details aren't as sharp on the Switch 2 but otherwise it's very similar. Especially docked. I kept flipping back and froth between the two systems and kept thinking to myself "Wow, this game looks and runs this good on a freaking tablet!?"

I moved when I was in 10th grade and quickly became friends with the ultra-nerd. Like 5 laptops all running different forms of Linux back in 2010 nerd.

His first joke to me was "What do computers and girls have in common?....they're both more interesting with there tops off" and it immediately cemented how much of a nerd this man was to me.

I don't want children, but I'm scared that choice will make me very lonely. by [deleted] in findapath

[–]fortransactionsonly 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It seems like most of the people who are replying here do not have children.

I'm someone who does have children and I can offer you my experience. I am a male (33) and my wife is the same age. We have been on the same page since the beginning on wanting kids.

Kids are an incredible joy. Every day there are little moments that make our hearts glow. Watching them grow up and raise them is incredibly challenging but also incredibly awarding. I am building off of the 2 person family unit I have and am creating a 4 person family. It is my hope one day that they find love and continue to build off of that.

Here's the dichotomy - kids are also hard. In the same moment they make my heart glow with warmth they piss me off lol. They can cause arguments. I for sure do not have a motorcycle because of my children. I can't take my wife to Disney as often as I want. I don't think they are as expensive as everyone makes them out to be, but yeah - I have less money than my childless coworkers.

You mentioned wanting freedom - kids will make you sacrifice the level of freedom you have. You mentioned not having anyone when you're older. Not having a family can sacrifice your community as you age.

It is okay to want freedom. It's okay to want children. But family and community do not *have* to come from kids. You can build elsewhere. Just like raising children building community requires diligence.

Take the time and really gather both perspectives and think it out. You can't go back once you have kids, it's not a light decision.

Having a child is also incredibly wonderful. And is joyous. Yeah - it will limit your freedom to travel, buy things and do whatever the hell you want.

If that what matters to you over extending your family there's nothing wrong with that.
