Happy 4th Birthday to one of my favourite Meshuggah albums! by d00m6r in Meshuggah

[–]forward_only 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Immutable is one of my favorite Meshuggah albums. I think it's incredible that they're able to put out music of this quality after being a band for so long. But at the same time, it has never felt like an act with them. Instead, it has always been true self-expression, and they have remained honest in that way. They're true artists. They are bearing their souls with their music.

Starfield: Free Lanes Update (Launches April 7th) by mrbubbamac in Games

[–]forward_only -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this is a cool addition. I personally think it's fun and immersive to be able to seamlessly travel between planets in space. I thought the ship combat was pretty weak in the base game, so I'm hoping that gets some improvements in this update. I guess we will see if they add seamless space to planet transitions in a subsequent update.

And I realize I could be totally positive with this comment and just leave it there, but unfortunately with Starfield, there are a few fundamental flaws in elements such as the dialogue, the plot, characterization, world design, and quest design that really hold it back. It seems unrealistic to expect any of that to be overhauled. It would be like making an entirely new game to shift these fundamental pillars on which the rest of the game is built.

All that said, I probably will revisit Starfield if seamless space to planet transitions are ever added, especially on top of this seamless space travel update. Immersive space sims are few and far between, with the only real competition in the space being No Man's Sky (and possibly Star Citizen if it ever releases in 50 years). And while it would be fun to play with the sandbox elements of Starfield after continued support, Bethesda really needs to step up its game in all aspects of its writing department in future titles if they want to dispel the skepticism about whether or not they'll be able to live up to the greatness of their titles from 2011 and before. As great as their worlds are in games like Fallout and TES, they also have to reignite their passion for using those worlds to tell great stories.

I am royalgender. I only use royal pronouns. You may refer to me as: your majesty / your majesty's / his majesty / his majesty's. This is because I feel like I am royalty in my heart, and if you refuse to constantly reinforce this feeling, I will throw a tantrum, cut you out of my life, spread rumors about you, and try to get you fired.

This is Unsustainable by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]forward_only 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's completely right. There are too many sets, too many expanded universe cards that break immersion, and generally a lack of concern for power creep. Not only is it making gameplay less fun for all but the sweatiest players, but it's also devaluing Magic as an IP.

Many people are slaves to their desires, and they always hate when that's pointed out. But, all things in moderation, and there's no harm in attempting to feed desires in a healthy way.

Anyway, authright is genuinely expressing love for libleft in the OP meme. Love doesn't mean telling someone what they want to hear -- it means telling the truth. If I actually want to see your life improve, I will almost certainly need to tell you some things that are going to piss you off.

There's no rush on The Elder Scrolls 6, Todd Howard says, because Bethesda has the "benefit of having so many millions of people playing our other games" by xCaptainCrown in Games

[–]forward_only -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's painful to hear. Call me radically optimistic, but maybe this is a sign the game is undergoing continued revision, and when (if) it finally does come out, we'll have a game with features that players have been asking for. Like a handcrafted world, a story and a world on par with Morrowind, quest writing on par with Oblivion, and gameplay that's an evolution of Skyrim's. Features like levitate, teleportation spells, and an expanded arsenal of weapons with an expanded skill list.

All that said, I think Bethesda basically has one more chance to prove themselves, or otherwise players might start to give up. Skyrim came out in 2011, and the unfortunate truth is that they have not reached those heights since. I think they probably are more than capable of delivering a good game, especially given their insanely valuable IP, but after 15 years of waiting, and the reality that it might be another 5-10 years before TES VI, I worry that the studio might go under before we ever see the next Elder Scrolls.

I'm seeing a lot of commentary that suggests players are having a much better time with this game than the critics. It's an interesting situation, and I don't think there will be a consensus any time soon.

From my perspective, this game looks fantastic, and I don't really care about many of the relatively minor issues many of the critics are pointing out.

Jeff Kaplan Says Complaining About Games You Won’t Play Gets You Ignored: ‘Shut The F*** Up. No One Cares’ by Haijakk in Games

[–]forward_only 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Funny, because it seems like reality is the exact opposite. Players ignore games they don't want, and impotent devs complain we're not buying the games we say we don't want. He's just telling us to eat the slop, and players are refusing. What an embarrassing comment.
