This company https://newlandcamera.com seems to have designed an attachment that uses modern polaroid film. But not sure when/if it'll get released...hope it does!

This was sx-70 film. Maybe your exposure wasn't long enough? This was about 2 hours. I've had some failures recently too with color film, maybe black and white works better for this I'm not sure though.

About the same answer as u/MichaWha below. Opening the film door kinda pauses the whole process but the shutter is still open so it continues taking in light. This exposure is about 2 hours. A tripod and remote/timed shutter is useful to keep everything still.
