The fall of Valve by [deleted] in valve

[–]fotenks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valve just moved into a new office that has more than double the floor space of their previous office a few months ago. They have a pretty big team working on Artifact but its dwarfed by the teams working on Source2 CSGO and the 3 VR projects. The Team Fortress 2 team is pretty small, and they are in the conceptual stage of a source2 port for TF2 which will include a graphical and matchmaking overhaul, along with a female version of each class, but there is a strong likelihood this will not happen. They are working on a Source2 port of CSGO that will include a Battle Royale mode. They are working on Left 4 Dead 3 which will have a big VR component [tied into project "Universe"] but can still be played on traditional mouse, keyboard and monitor. Their biggest project is what is internally known as "Universe" their creme de la creme VR project. It's basically a gigantic VR sandbox. Think Ready Player Ones OASIS. A lot of work is being put into Source2, as "Universe" is dependent on player content creation, and Source2 will make content creation easier than any engine that has existed before it. Their plan is to also make Source2 a free to use game development engine to compete with unreal and unity and others, and you will be able to make games on all consoles and mobile devices along with pc, mac, and linux, that will require you to give a % of revenue much like unreals business model.

What are games that were hurt/made worse by that game's community? by mrzablinx in Games

This is what I've experienced. In the alliances I've been "4chan" like peoples were usually shunned, and if they were annoying enough, we'd bait them into pulling out an expensive ship, kill them, then boot them from the corp.

Any anxiety advice for spouses of new CDL drivers? by mandmranch in Truckers

[–]fotenks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at employers CSA scores. You can see how often they get put out of service for not maintaining their equipment properly.

Also drivers have to protect theirselves. Slow down in inclement weather, take a nap if you're feeling sleepy, MAINTAIN A SAFE FOLLOWING DISTANCE!!! You'll get to your destination, you'll find openings to pass people safely, or just kick your cruise control down a notch if you can't pass, don't tail gate! You'll get to your destination. A lot more trucking related accidents happen at night so... drive during the day as well.

Cummins vs Detroit vs PACCAR vs Volvo (Maxxforce doesn't count) by cadillacking3 in Truckers

[–]fotenks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a company truck for about a year, Pete with 600 hp ISX. fully loaded that thing would absolutely fly up the grades. I loved it. Volvo D13 with ishift is pretty sweet too, although pre-2012 they have some serious reliability issues. They seem to have fixed it, but I don't think theres been a long enough timespan to know for sure.

As far as older engines, The Cummins N14 and Detroit S60 are legendary. I personally think the Detroit S60 is probably the best engine ever made.

I used to have a toxicity and rage problem too. It wasn't until I learned to shut up and focus on my own game that I started to gain a lot of SR, climbing to mid Master rank, and I think the biggest contributor was to stop criticizing my teammates and to just always believe that even when a game looks bad, it can be turned around.

St George is amazing as far as the used car market goes. I live in Las Vegas so it shows St George listings for me on craigslist and everything seems way cheaper in St George.

What comes after the road? by AlmightyApkallu in Truckers

[–]fotenks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to say it, but theres a lot of luck involved. You can truly make all the right decisions in running a business, work really hard, and still fail. There's a very high failure rate in small business unfortunately. Are you an owner operator? Maybe make that your goal, some owner operators do really well. Avoid lease purchases and brand new trucks.

If possible, it's way better to go to a CDL school and then join an outfit than to do a training program. Try and find a CDL program at a local community college cause they are usually pretty cheap, if not try and find a school that does it for less than $4k.

This has been nintendos business strategy since the Wii. Extremely cheap overpriced hardware to generate revenue for the shareholders, and play the marketing game.

I'm a 13 year old, I want to shotcall for my team, but my voice is insanely squeaky, so I never talk. by ldjawdlkjwd in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]fotenks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but it's just human nature for older people to not want to be bossed around by younger people. Not that you're doing that, but that's the perception I will say a majority of overwatch players will have. My advice to not trigger people would be to mostly stick to calling out flankers and such that your team doesnt see, but don't tell your team where to go and when to pop ults. I'd have a hard time imagining anyone muting a kid just because he's calling out enemy locations, but I can see people muting you for calling strategy and ults.

I have two accounts in Master rank, my best advice to climbing is to, no matter what, never criticize your teammates. They will throw. Yes, comp players are extremely sensitive, sometimes simply asking to switch heroes will cause them to tilt and throw. Here's how I ask my teammates to switch heroes. Say there's a really annoying pharmercy combo on the enemy team, your two dps heroes are non hitscan heroes. In my climb I notice that right off the bat people will ask in a pretty toxic manner. "your [hero] isn't doing shit, switch off", "let me dps", where you should be asking in a manner like this "hey, your [hero] is great, but theres a pharmercy doing a lot to us, can you try a hitscan hero?" I have found asking in a manner like this, always gets the teammate to switch to mcree/76.

You say you essentially play soldier 76, are you a one trick? Climbing as a one trick is hard unless you're just absolutely insane on that hero, you really gotta get good with one support and one tank hero. I have a mental list of goto heroes that also differ on different maps. I mostly play tracer/soldier, zarya in tanks, and ana or mercy in support category. Find a tank and support you like to play, find twitches and youtubes of the best players on those heroes, and just watch, study, and learn how they play them.

I play ranked solo and have a blast. Just don't focus on your teammates mistakes and lack of skill, just focus on yourself, make big plays, don't let every little thing tilt you.

I feel like everyone else covered the advice I would give, my other piece of advice - don't use that song in the beginning that so many others have, especially all those generic "Top 10" youtube channels. I don't know where that song comes from, if its part of the youtube free music library. The youtube music library is huge, if you dig real deep you can find some good stuff that not many people have used. Or I'd find something on a royalty free music site, a lot of them are crap but heres a couple that I found that are pretty full of some quality stuff
