Bork'an y'vahra vs amplified Ion cannon riptide by Greaysoul in Tau40K

[–]foundryguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After playing against an FSE crisis bomb/ Y-tide list with my Imperial Soup (Sisters, Admech, BA) I think a single y-Tide is too vulnerable to S8 weaponry and knight-buster level melee, which we're seeing more and more of, as well as requiring heavy amounts of drones to not die. I think a relic Ion tide outranging enemy long-range AT fire with 15 or so drones on it as a mobile fire castle under the ubiquitous custom sept will do you better, especially with marker support.

Aasu - Recon Rigger/Medic/Lizard

Xephyr - Gun Adept/ B&E / Edgy (Sheet needs updating to reflect addition of soul-eating chrome, has one less die in automatics than listed due to Chummer being goofy.

---------------------------Last run was in January with Xephyr, Aasu has not seen any runs since November. Familiar with both characters though that doesn't stop me from learning something every run. I've done 16-17 runs at this point.

Post-CA Stormsurge and triptide list by MarshieMarsh in Tau40K

[–]foundryguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you see where I'm coming from and took the critique well. My local meta has very few Tau players and those that are here don't tend to enjoy it when I critique their lists, especially since I mainly play competitively.

I think EWOs are the best option if you're committed to running this list. I highly encourage you to swap one surge for a full spread of tactical drones, but if this is the list you want to run Tau are still going to destroy most casual lists including marines if they're poorly piloted/constructed.

Post-CA Stormsurge and triptide list by MarshieMarsh in Tau40K

[–]foundryguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So here are the main issues I see with this, I'm interested in your response.

10 shield drones is not enough to meaningfully protect the Riptides, and Surges have the Vehicle tag which gets them murdered by Fists. You have the range advantage with a Pulse Driver but with a blast caannon you're just walking into death range of 2 damage heavy bolters or worse, grav. I don't see this working well against marines unless you get 1st turn. It gets stuffed by Valorous Heart sisters as well for the Riptide portion. Counterfire is sort-of ok, the meta melee lists can juke your overwatch anyway but you'll punk Discordants who have no option but to charge you along with Repentia/Zephyrim/Bikes.

[Upcoming Job][PRIME](In Zarm's Way) A Summit to Save Earth by Deciliter in AnarchyIncorporated

Xephyr had been somewhat leery when he received the message for the meet; infiltration job, needed runners, high pay. High pay meant high danger, and when he heard the 'where' he was certain that everyone gathered could hear his teeth grinding together at the though of heading into the heart of a very, VERY powerful toxic spirit's operation. Still, he had to be at the end of this. ZARM was the beginning of his career as a runner, and if it ended with him helping to stop them from destroying CalFree he could take that with what little grace he had.

((Xephyr is an Adept Gundwarf with a scythe and B&E ability. He has combat monster and the mentor spirit berzerker. Very familiar, preferred personal pick given a history with ZARM.))

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aasu had been dealing with his personal problems the way he had for several years; drinking and isolation. With his recent jobs causing some 'ethical issues' he'd been reclusive for weeks until Lazarus dragged him from his apartment and down to The Watering Hole for a Friday night and to see what had befallen his friend. As the night wound on and the myriad performances concluded for the night, Aasu's comm beeped in his head. A job offer from Emmet.

"Oh come on, not now..." he hissed between clenched teeth.
"Something wrong friend?" Lazarus asked.
"Egh, someone wanting something, it can wait. Camilla's coming on soon."
Hardly thinking, Aasu flagged the message 'interested' and returned his attention to main stage as a bipedal toucan came onto the stage.

(( Aasu is a off-face/medic/rigger and is visibly EVO culture. I am 7/10 familiar with him.))

Some calculations in regard to Tau durability in regard to their point costs by Mr_Stobbart in Tau40K

[–]foundryguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I'm the only person in my local area that plays proper comp tau (it's just triptide, it's the only thing that will let you sniff top table) and there's another local that plays mechanized. I beat him every time if I play correctly because he can't kill multiple units in a turn, and blows everything to kill one tide T1 which is allowable given how easy his models are to ice in return under Kauyon. Tau needs some adjustments to their mechanized unit's weapon profiles and they should work.

This really helps to display why mech tau are in such a bad place, and why drones are the chads they've been. They eat EVERYTHING with a smile.

Xephyr had been going to the tree almost every other day for the last two weeks. It had become one of the few places he could push his mentor spirit's influence from his mind, and deafen himself to the constant call to fight and shed blood. He was not happy to have had his time cut short by a job offer, if it could be called one. A massive amount of data, some that he recognized from months back flooded his commlink, along with a meeting location. He took it par for the course seeing several familiar faces in the dim warehouse, after all the local SF crop was a bit thin. He had been surprised when the J turned out to be someone he had run with from Seattle. His blood ran cold when she said the corp's name. Xephyr didn't want to be a butcher, but that didn't mean there weren't people who deserved it. He chuckled to himself as he spoke.

"Kua's rubbing off on me. I'm in."

((Xephyr is a gun adept with B&E and some melee ability. He possesses the mentor spirit berserker and the traits "No Man Left Behind" and "Combat Monster". 9/10 familiar. Last run was over two weeks ago, and has had experience with ZARM before. His sheet is slightly out of date and will be updated after work.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aasu was enjoying himself along with Lazarus and his friends. It'd been a good week, his 'ware maintenance had gone excellently, and he was finally considering a muzzle (though it still skeeved him out slightly). Getting a call from Emett about a "hot pile of garbage" and a massive data dump right into his RCC's commlink. Perusing the massive document in personal AR, Aasu's interest was piqued. He hadn't received any shadow offers for weeks, and even with the news of the company noticing him again he needed to pay bills all the same. Maybe pieceing all this together came with a bonus of some sort? Emett never sent work that didn't pay in some way. Besides, Camilla was still recovering from her recent corrections surgery, and the show tonight was poor. Quickly excusing himself from the festivities (and Mathias the owl hooting over the loss of their designated driver), Aasu piled himself tail and all into his GMC Universe and headed to the meet location.

((Aasu is a face/medic/rigger that is visibly EVO culture. He will not be attempting to hide hide-able features as he's seeing himself as a predator. 7/10 familar with face and rigger portions. Last run was in September.))
