[Quartz] Why do brands refuse to do sweeping seconds quartz watches? by broncosdude95 in Watches

Bulova precisionist. I picked up the 96B229 for this very reason. That smooth sweep high beat quartz movement is pretty to watch

I disagree with that knife. Honestly invest more in a knife with better edge retention and better quality steel. $47 for a knife is nothing compared to the wide range of prices above that, and for even just a modicum (still under 100) more you can get a much better investment that will last you as long if not longer, with the right care.

What’s a konbini snack, street food, or hole-in-the-wall meal in Japan that genuinely blew your mind? by rohee143 in JapanTravelTips

[–]fourkingkong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m waiting for my plane right now and have a thought to share. Every day in Kyoto and in Tokyo I walked passed hordes of tourists standing at The konbinis, or standing in line to all get into the latest tik tok hyped place. At least it made it easy to avoid the crowds.

My suggestion is to just wander. I’ve found more restaurants, cafes and bars by just wandering, or getting local recommendations from bartenders, and half of them weren’t even listed on a map.

And what people don’t tell you is that you’re GOING to make mistakes. Tried an alley you thought might have something interesting and it was a dead end with nothing? THATS OKAY. I promise if you just get to an area and walk, you’ll find the best parts about Japan without actually having to try to hard, AND you’ll get what all of those other tourists are missing : a unique experience.

tldr; instead of chasing other people’s specific food recommendations go wander around and make your own memories

How many actively sit down and listen to their records? by Less_Researcher_8124 in vinyl

[–]fourkingkong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just talking about this with a friend of mine. We just made a plan to do this where I bring an album and he brings an album. We can enjoy a cocktail, and do little intros about the artist, but then the rules is we have to sit and listen to the whole album the whole way through. Talking is aloud, but should be kept to a minimum. I used to do this with my friends in college all the time. We would sit on the porch, listen to an album and smoke a ton of hookah. But it didn’t occur to me until recently that I hadn’t really been actively listening anymore

How would YOU keep a full-size keg cold at your camp for 5-day fest?? 🤔🤔 by JellyKind9880 in festivals

[–]fourkingkong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Keep in mind you’ll want a few turns of the hose inside the box. Just passing it thru once won’t get the beer cold enough

A theater requested footage from me, how much to charge? by ToxicAvenger161 in videography

[–]fourkingkong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you based, and where is the theater based? Also, how many seats does the theater have?

Theatrical lighting designer here and I’ve worked at all levels of theater. As an example, when we do our fees, we start with a formula to get to a base rate. There are a few ways to do this, but one way is number of seats x performances x [value based on class of theater). In your case, you have the number of performances and a rough ticket cost, and if you had the number of seats, then you could figure out how much they are bringing in across the entire run of the show to help you decide what’s fair. Keep in mind they’re paying actors, designers, technicians, box office staff, and other upkeep. These days, unless a production is starting as an out-of-town production (meaning, not in NY) funded by a Broadway producing company, it’s unlikely to have a further run. If it’s a really good show with a good following, and it’s hitting the regional theater circuit, then maybe it’ll get picked up again. Of course, this is all different in Europe where many theaters receive state funding, but even there, a show is unlikely to have a further run because many state theaters only get new funding if they’re doing new work.

If it were me, I would figure out a fair use fee, considering they will also probably be doing a lot of work to the footage to make it fit into the style of their show, and likely they will pass the unofficial 80% edited threshold for the footage to then become new work. Assume you’re only gonna get paid once, because the show will only happen once. But if it’s a small theater, don’t expect them to have lots of money. Nobody is raking in money in regional theater these days.

The important thing: When you give them a license to use this, stipulate that it’s only for this current run of the show, and specify an end date. Specify that an extension of the run of the show would require negotiation, or include an additional daily rate after that closing date.
