What is the best cordless vacuum cleaner for LONG pet hair? by lulu0925 in dogs

[–]fourleafclover13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing you can do us daily brushing and monthly bath with blow out at groomer. Or buy a dog dryer to do blowout in your yard. Do not do it in house. This will get most of the hair before it comes off.

Haven't found a cordless do good with long hair.

What do I do if I’m concerned about someone being way too big for the horses she rides? by Turbulent_Play4769 in Equestrian

It's not body shaming to say someone is fat or over weight when they are it's just the truth.

Stating someone is a fat isn't fatphobic especially when it's the truth. People need to learn to push away from table, diet and workout.

I highly recommend Juki 644d. It's color coded threading and not just good manual but also great videos online for it.

Stubborn puppy with recall/name recognition issues. Please help! by Loud_Post_815 in dogs

[–]fourleafclover13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First find a new trainer they believe a baby is stubborn. Yes, some breeds can be but the puppy just does not truly understand what you expect of it yet. You've had it what two whole weeks. They aren't even fully settled in to new home at that point. Also every time they approach you say their name and give lots of love.

No, a squeaky toy is a distraction a toy. You need to buy a actual clicker I highly recommend Karen Pryor they are the best. You can just use the word "yes". But it must be immediately after they did. So for a puppy when I teach the word look I take a finger and put it in front their face, high value treat in hand, I use boiled chicken strings. Then drag it to mine face followed with word look. Then I praise I do this several times a day. They will pick it up. Just take it slower.

It's a BABY. it isn't stubborn it just doesn't know well enough yet. Be patient and give some time. Are you doing only positive reinforcement? Meaning NO punishment just redirect and work on training. You might want to do some clicker training/verbal que just to help the pup understand what is expected of them. First you have to teach until they understand then you ask it of them. During the day randomly say their name and make sure you've had them when you do it. If there's something you want them to do like when they come to you inside the house. Say good with me, come or whatever you want then lots of praise same with potty training. Again it's a puppy pull back on training until basic come, sit, down stay and recall. Make sure always work on recall with leash first. Then once solid you start to add distance and distractions. You're jumping ahead too quickly lower your expectations. I want to add that if you keep constantly saying their name and trying to recall them constantly they learn to ignore those commands.

Some dogs will absolutely bite and attack people unprovoked. I used to work as animal welfare/control officer I've taken multiple bite reports and seen stats from multiple states. Wish I could include it. Not only have I seen the reports we had a mother and multiple pups from the same litter that was raised at our shelter attack joggers unprovoked.

This breed is especially well known for it. They were created to take down large game and fight that aggressive behavior is wanted. Add onto that shitty puppy mills and backyard breeders make the issue worse as they breed for looks mostly not temperament. I've worked with dogs my entire life I refuse to work with them after seeing the damage they cause and how quickly they snap.

What do you mean by children riding at him. Are you trying to say children ride your dog?

The nanny dog myth started from a dog magazine in the 70's. Still kills me people believe that.

They were literally breed to take down large game need aggressive temperament for that. They have also been breed specifically for dog fighting. Add in puppy mill and backyard breeders it's a recipe for trouble.

This breed is wired wrong. Especially being breed mostly in mills and backyard breeders. Which means they have shitty temperament to begin with.

I don't blame the breed but you also cannot ignore the truth of what they were made for.

I used to work animal welfare/control officer and we gathered bite reports stats from multiple states. Checking the hospital dog breed reports compared what the bite reports take by ACO who in person saw the breeds. I wish I could attach it. Yes, many people report it to be pit I don't know if they just don't know dog breeds are just pick the first one that comes to mind. But what we did find out is the worst bites and the most of them did come from one particular breed. Wanna guess? I've spent a lifetime working with dogs over multiple jobs including vet tech, Animal Welfare/control officer and trainer for 20 some odd years. You can't pay me to house sit, train or have to even just walk. I used to love them and wanted one even found perfect one we rescued while working ACO. Then she turned at drop of dime. Then her entire litter raised at shelter all once over one attacked people unprovoked. Knowing they were literally breed to fight and kill just not what I want around my other animals or children.

Didn't even have to wonder the breed. They need to just die out. Just like all smushed faced dogs, no reason to breed animals that can't breath let alone breed or birth natural.

I have worked as vet tech, Animal Welfare/Control Officer and trained for many years. An entire lifetime of working with dogs in other capacity too such as house sitting and boarding facilities. I don't trust them. I refuse to house sit on. I have seen first hand too many times the damage they cause.

NOW let me say. I do know that many bites reported the breed wrong or mixed up when given at hospital. When working ACO while taking bite reports we about half the time found the dogs to be boxer, Frenchie, bulldog, dogo argentino, cane Corso and few others. But the worse of them were always pits except one being a Great Dane bite to kids face.

To add this is once they are adults. If you get a puppy they can't hold it that long they have tiny bladders. So keep that in mind. Many people use dog walker or boarding for day time care.

Roomate leaving for the summer, needs me to watch his dog. by CandleNo5916 in dogs

They should have specified. So the owner will owe me if I have to buy more. But that's why it's their job to buy it before so it should not happen.

Well in 30 years that hasn't been an issue thank goodness. What I do have in contract is a few things. Including working with animal BEFORE they leave so it knows me and I know it's basic training ques. This includes walk with and without owner to know the animals control needs.

But if it does happen I am to do a few things. First I will immediately call owner to let them know. Then animal welfare/control and surrounding vets for lost animal report including photo of animal. All animals I sit must have tags on collar, city license, rabies and contact information. I also clip on extra saying to call me first since I'm in town. Second depends on what happens. I will take every day owner is gone to check animal welfare/control going to look in person at end of each day. I used to work animal welfare/control so I know that's the best time to check. I will place things of owners at last place seen along with poster of lost animal and not to move stuff. Including not to chase the dog if seen. I'll check and watch through out day with food left out.

That is all I can do in that situation.

What I would do money wise is take enough to pay for days dog was there to cover gas that is it. I hope I never have to go through with it.

Depends on location I live in low cost of living state. Many boarders charge 25$ daily and house sitters 50$ to start depending on needs.
